As part of the 2026 summer tourism activities, the Women's Union of Binh Kien Ward, Dak Lak Province, recently launched the experiential model "Long Thuy Women Preserving the Soul of the Seafaring Profession," contributing to the preservation of the traditional net-weaving craft, maintaining the cultural identity of the fishing village, and developing experiential tourism associated with the community.

Along with fishing trips, handicrafts serving the fishing industry, such as net weaving, net mending, and fishing gear making, have become an indispensable part of the cultural life of coastal residents. Photo: Women's Union of Binh Kien Ward, Dak Lak Province.
Long Thuy has long been known as a coastal area rich in tradition, with many generations of people involved in the exploitation and fishing of seafood. Along with venturing out to sea, handicrafts serving the fishing industry, such as net weaving, net mending, and fishing gear making, have become an indispensable part of the cultural life of the coastal residents.
However, with the changes of modern life and the emergence of industrially produced fishing gear, the traditional craft of net weaving is facing the risk of disappearing. Those who remain involved in the craft are mainly elderly women, while the younger generation has few opportunities to learn and inherit it. Many familiar images once associated with the fishing village of Long Thuy are also gradually becoming rare.
Based on this reality, the Women's Union of Binh Kien Ward has developed the model "Long Thuy Women Preserving the Soul of the Seafaring Profession" with the desire to preserve traditional cultural values that are at risk of being forgotten. The model not only serves as a place to preserve and teach the craft of net weaving but also contributes to promoting the role of women in preserving local cultural heritage.

The model is expected to become a highlight of experiential tourism in Long Thuy, where visitors can not only learn about traditional fishing methods but also gain a deeper understanding of the cultural life of the coastal community. Photo: Women's Union of Binh Kien Ward, Dak Lak Province.
Immediately after the launch ceremony, delegates, locals, and tourists visited the craft village, directly experiencing the traditional net-weaving process under the guidance of the model's members. The nimble hands weaving each thread and connecting each mesh vividly recreated the image of diligent labor that was once integral to the lives of fishermen in the coastal region.

According to representatives of the Women's Union of Binh Kien ward, the model is expected to become a highlight of experiential tourism in Long Thuy, where tourists can not only learn about traditional fishing but also gain a deeper understanding of the cultural life of the coastal community.

More importantly, this is also a meaningful educational space for the younger generation, helping to cultivate love for their homeland, raise awareness of preserving cultural heritage, and appreciate the values of labor built up over many generations.

The launch of the "Long Thuy Women Preserving the Soul of the Seafaring Profession" model not only contributes to the preservation of a gradually fading traditional craft but also opens up a new direction in exploiting local cultural values to serve community tourism development.
