During his leadership, on March 26, 1976, Comrade Le Duan, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party, directly supervised, assisted, and closely monitored the construction of the Ke Go large-scale irrigation project, located in the arid, drought-stricken areas of Thach Ha, Cam Xuyen, and Ky Anh districts. After four years of tireless labor, overcoming difficulties, hardships, and sacrifices, the project was completed on March 26, 1980. The water from the Ke Go reservoir has completely transformed the landscape of Ha Tinh province, making a significant contribution to economic and social development and improving the lives of the local people.
To honor the immense contributions of General Secretary Le Duan, on the occasion of the 180th anniversary of the province's founding (October 15, 1831 - October 15, 2011), with the family's consent, Ha Tinh province decided to invest in the construction of a temple dedicated to the late General Secretary Le Duan on the island in the middle of the lake, where the General Secretary once stayed during his visit to his hometown of Ha Tinh (hence the local people often call it "General Secretary Le Duan's Island"), with a total cost of nearly 4.8 billion VND.
After nearly three years of construction, the temple was officially inaugurated on January 18, 2014 (the 18th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Snake).
The temple is situated on a small, sloping island in the middle of Ke Go Lake. The grounds cover an area of 320 square meters, facing northwest, with the road leading to the temple at the front. The temple is located on the highest point of the island – a place of honor. In front is the entrance, a ceremonial courtyard, and a system of steps arranged from top to bottom, higher at the back and gradually lower towards the front. The rhythmic steps create the feeling of a waterfall cascading from its source, a waterfall symbolizing the heroic tradition, hidden strength, and sacrifices of our ancestors…
The surrounding fence system is designed and built with brick, decorated with lime blossom ceramic tile patterns, and is 0.75m high. With its modest height, the structure blends seamlessly into the island's landscape, creating a harmonious connection and avoiding a sense of isolation.
The temple is built in the form of a two-story, multi-tiered structure, on a regular octagonal floor plan with an area of 85.5 square meters. The entire roof is covered with curved tiles, decorated with animal motifs at the corners, and the floor is paved with reddish-brown tiles. The structure is surrounded by a system of yin-yang silk-like walls. In front is a system of upper and lower panel doors. The yin-yang foundation stones have surfaces carved with lotus flower patterns in green stone. The architectural structure consists of 8 truss sets with 8 columns and 8 supporting columns. All wooden components are made of ironwood.
Built in a traditional architectural style, harmoniously integrated with the natural landscape, the structure serves as a cultural and spiritual site for visitors from all over to commemorate the late General Secretary Le Duẩn and the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives in Ha Tinh province in the cause of national construction and defense.
