In recent days, Journey to the West has generated little interest or discussion. Many people are unaware of its theatrical release, partly due to limited screenings and partly due to a lack of investment in marketing.
The film is currently near the bottom of the box office charts, and its release date is not far off with modest box office figures.
Before its disastrous box office performance in Vietnam, Journey to the West: Uproar was a name that piqued the curiosity of Asian audiences thanks to its unique approach, transforming the classic pilgrimage to obtain the scriptures into a time-traveling adventure with a family-friendly comedic twist.
The film opens with the familiar scene of Tang Sanzang and his disciples embarking on their journey to the West to obtain the scriptures. However, this time, the group is missing Zhu Bajie. Midway through their journey, the group is unexpectedly pursued by a series of demons such as Princess Iron Fan, the Spider Demon, the Nine-Tailed Fox, and the Bull Demon King, all aiming to devour Tang Sanzang to achieve immortality.
During the chaotic battle, Sun Wukong is struck by the Banana Leaf Fan and flung through a spatial rift, landing in a massive garbage dump in modern-day Thailand. Left behind in his familiar mythical world , the Monkey King is unexpectedly taken in and cared for by a group of impoverished children. From here, the film gradually shifts into a touching story of friendship between a god and a human, while also incorporating many satirical social commentary details in the familiar style of Thai cinema.

However, many adult viewers believe the film takes a simplistic, child-oriented approach and lacks depth compared to other versions of Journey to the West . Some opinions suggest the script primarily focuses on mindless comedic elements, neglecting logic and emotional depth. This is also why the work appeals to a niche audience.
On the other hand, some opinions still defend the work, arguing that Journey to the West: Uproar is essentially a commercial comedy, made to serve pure entertainment rather than being a serious adaptation.
