The vitality of historical sites
The An Hoa Party Branch Founding Site, located at the Hai Thuong Lan Ong - Le Huu Trac Temple, is a city-level historical site situated at 126 Tran Viet Chau Street, Cai Khe Ward, Can Tho City. According to documents from the Can Tho City Museum, the temple was initially built in 1967 using bamboo and leaves by a number of traditional medicine practitioners and pharmacists in Can Tho, along with local people. On February 25, 2012, the temple was rebuilt with its current beautiful and sturdy architecture.
During the resistance war against the US, the Hai Thuong Lan Ong Temple served as a revolutionary base for many cadres. This was the location where the first Party branch of An Hoa neighborhood (later An Hoa ward, Ninh Kieu district, now Cai Khe ward, Can Tho city) was established.
Every year, on Vietnamese Doctors' Day (February 27th) and the anniversary of the death of the founder of Vietnamese medicine (the 15th and 16th days of the first lunar month), incense offerings and remembrance of the founder of Vietnamese medicine take place at the Hai Thuong Lan Ong Temple. This historical site is a place that illuminates medical ethics.

The revered physician Lê Hữu Trác, also known as Hải Thượng Lãn Ông, was born on November 10, 1724, and died on the 15th day of the first lunar month of the Tân Hợi year (1791). His father was Lê Hữu Mưu, a scholar and Doctor of Philosophy from Liêu Xá village, Đường Hào district, Thượng Hồng prefecture, Hải Dương province, and his mother was Bùi Thị Thưởng, from Bàu Thượng village, Tình Diệm commune, Hương Sơn district, Đức Quang prefecture, Nghệ An province (now part of Hà Tĩnh province). The title Hải Thượng Lãn Ông is a combination of his father's hometown of Hải Dương province, his mother's hometown of Bàu Thượng village, and Lãn Ông, meaning a leisurely man who disregarded fame and fortune. His tomb is located at the foot of Minh Từ mountain, in what is now Hà Tĩnh province. |
