At Kelly Pang Nail Academy – one of Vietnam's leading nail training centers – the creative atmosphere this year is particularly vibrant.

Ms. Pang My Nguyen – CEO and Art Director of Kelly Pang Nail Academy – shared: "This is a major and sacred occasion for every Vietnamese person. As the Art Director and vocational teacher for over 22 years, I, along with my team of teachers, have created a special collection to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country. Each nail design expresses patriotism, national pride, and gratitude for the sacrifices of our ancestors through every brushstroke.”

To create these works, the artisans at Kelly Pang applied techniques such as fine brush painting, 3D relief painting, Chibi cartoon painting, portrait painting, ombre color blending, mirror finish, cat-eye shading, and crystal embellishments. Iconic images such as the red flag with a yellow star, Vietnamese girls in traditional ao dai dresses, soldiers, doves, and the words "Independence - Freedom - Happiness" are vividly and delicately depicted on each nail.

According to Ms. My Nguyen, creating this special collection is not only an artistic activity but also a way to spread patriotism, cherish peace , and convey positive messages to the community through everyday beauty work.

Inspiring and spreading identity.

Not only at large academies, but the atmosphere celebrating April 30th is also heating up every day at affordable nail salons. Ms. Minh Ha - the owner of a small nail salon on Nguyen Khanh Toan Street (Cau Giay District, Hanoi) - said that the number of customers requesting April 30th-themed nail designs this year has doubled, even tripled, compared to previous years.

Ms. Minh Ha shared: "I've never seen such a vibrant atmosphere at the nail salon on April 30th as this year. Most of the customers requesting patriotic designs are young people, and everyone wants their nails painted with symbols of the flag, soldiers, or the map of Vietnam. The golden star on a deep red background is the most popular design."

Patriotic-themed nail designs are popular among young people.

According to Ms. Ha, many customers also request personalized designs with meaningful characters such as "April 30th," "Vietnam," "Freedom," "Independence," or add metallic effects and crystals to make their nails both elegant and eye-catching for holiday celebrations. The price for each nail set at this salon ranges from 250,000 VND, depending on the design and additional decorations requested by the customer.

"Many customers book their nail sets very early to have time to check in and take photos with their families. Some even bring a whole group of friends to get matching sets, each person getting a part of the flag design, which combine to form a large picture. Being able to share this national pride with my customers makes my job much more meaningful," Ms. Ha said emotionally.

The festive atmosphere was also reflected in the excitement of each customer visiting the beauty salon. Ms. Tran Thao Nhi (24 years old) – a customer who had just had her nails done to celebrate April 30th – expressed: “This is the first time I’ve chosen a patriotic-themed nail design. Looking at the sparkling golden stars on the deep red background on my hands, I not only find it beautiful but also feel a strong sense of national pride. Every little detail reminds me of the glorious history of our country. For me, this year’s April 30th holiday is truly special and more meaningful than ever.”

From elaborately crafted manicures, Vietnamese nail art is not simply about beautifying oneself, but has gone far beyond—becoming a creative form of expressing patriotism. Each stroke, each tiny symbol on the fingertips not only reflects exquisite craftsmanship but also evokes national pride, gratitude to ancestors, and a sense of historical connection in the minds of the younger generation.

In the process of international integration, traditional values are not forgotten, but are being expressed through a new aesthetic language—colorful, individualistic, and relatable. Small details can tell a grand story about a resilient, peace-loving nation that constantly reinvents itself to inspire the community. Therefore, the art of beautification is contributing to writing unique chapters in the journey of preserving and spreading Vietnamese identity amidst the modern flow.
