Traveling to Cat Ba by cruise ship is a popular choice for many tourists.
Mr. Vu Huu Vinh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cat Hai Special Economic Zone, said that in the coming time, the special economic zone will continue to mobilize maximum resources to promote green transformation, digital transformation, and the application of artificial intelligence in economic and social development, and to build Cat Ba into a national tourist area and an international marine ecotourism center.
Regarding green transformation, the Viet Hai community tourism destination will serve as a pilot model to be replicated throughout the special economic zone. Specifically, on August 12th, the People's Committee of the Cat Hai Special Economic Zone issued Plan No. 26/KH-UBND on "Green Transformation of the Viet Hai Community Tourism Destination, Cat Hai Special Economic Zone, 2025-2030". Accordingly, the special economic zone will focus on green transformation in five areas, with tourism being the leading sector. The Viet Hai community tourism destination will develop in a way that balances economic growth, environmental protection, and improving the quality of life for the community. The locality will continue to develop experiential tourism, exploring trekking tours through the primeval forest located in the core area of Cat Ba National Park, as well as other environmentally friendly services such as cycling to experience the countryside amidst the sea, foot massage with stream fish, etc.
Viet Hai will apply technologies and technical solutions to minimize greenhouse gas emissions, utilize renewable energy such as solar and wind power, and use 100% environmentally friendly transportation methods such as electric vehicles, bicycles, and solar-powered boats. Accommodation establishments, restaurants, and tourism service businesses must comply with regulations on wastewater and waste treatment, limit the use of single-use plastics, and contribute to maintaining the marine ecosystem and the Cat Ba National Forest. Most importantly, green tourism must be linked to the conservation of forest and marine ecosystems and rare flora and fauna.

Reportedly, the special zone has 316 tourist accommodation establishments with a total of 6,606 rooms; 149 passenger ships operating in the bays of the Cat Ba archipelago; and 77 food and beverage establishments serving tourists. Along with sightseeing and relaxation activities around the Cat Ba area, tourists can also explore and experience other unique tourism services such as rural tourism, exploring Cat Ba National Park, and spending the night on Lan Ha Bay...
