
Recognizing the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program as a crucial solution for leveraging local advantages, enhancing the value of agricultural products, and creating sustainable livelihoods for the people, Thất Khê commune has focused on raising awareness among residents and producers over the years. Through village meetings, thematic conferences, and the public address system, the commune government has helped residents and producers understand the goals, significance, and long-term benefits of the OCOP program, thereby fostering proactive participation.
Alongside promotional activities, the commune actively reviews and selects products with potential and advantages to guide the development of the OCOP program. Businesses are supported in completing their applications, developing production and business plans, improving processes, standardizing quality, and designing packaging and labels to meet the program's requirements. As a result, since the implementation of the OCOP program, Thất Khê commune has had 11 products certified with 3-star OCOP.
As one of the business owners with products achieving OCOP 3-star certification, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang from That Khe commune said: "To date, I have been producing traditional dishes in the commune for 16 years. Through the propaganda and guidance of the commune government, in 2023, I registered to participate in the OCOP program. Accordingly, I focused on implementing criteria to ensure food safety, upgrading the production area and equipping it with machinery, building labels, and creating product stories... Along with that, the facility also received guidance and financial support from the commune government and specialized departments for logo design, packaging and label printing, and product promotion... Since participating in the OCOP program, the facility has had 4 products certified with OCOP 3-star, the value of the products has increased by 50% compared to before participating in the program, and the facility regularly maintains and creates jobs for 10 workers in the area." In the future, the facility will continue to improve, build a dossier for upgrading the star rating of its braised pork product, and register additional new products.
Similarly, recognizing that participating in the OCOP program contributes to increasing economic value, the business of Nong Thi Tuyet in That Khe commune also actively completed the application for her baked goods to participate in the OCOP program. Ms. Tuyet said: "To build a product brand, at the beginning of 2023, with the support of the specialized department and the commune government, I completed the application to participate in the OCOP program. By the end of 2023, my family's baked goods were evaluated and ranked as OCOP 3 stars. Since achieving OCOP certification, the market for my products has expanded throughout the provinces."
The effective implementation of the OCOP program in That Khe commune is not only reflected in the number of products achieving star ratings but also in creating jobs, increasing income for people, and contributing to socio-economic development. Mr. Luong Xuan Thang, Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: The OCOP program is one of the important "leverages" in shifting the rural economic structure towards commodity production. Products are becoming more widely known to consumers, the market is expanding, thereby increasing people's income and contributing to the effective implementation of the new rural development process. In the future, the commune will continue to promote and encourage businesses to expand their scale and improve product quality, while also reviewing products in the area to complete the dossiers for recognizing more new products.
Thanks to its efforts in implementing the OCOP program, in October 2025, That Khe was the only commune to receive a certificate of commendation from the Department of Agriculture and Environment for its outstanding achievements in implementing the "One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program of Lang Son province, 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030". This is proof of the commune's correct direction in leveraging its internal resources and establishing the brand of local agricultural products in the market.
