In an interview with People , Miranda McKeon recounted that at age 19, right after completing her freshman year of college, the actress discovered a small lump in her right breast. A subsequent biopsy turned her life upside down when she received the news that she had stage 3 breast cancer.
The actress underwent eight rounds of chemotherapy, 25 radiation treatments, and three major surgeries, including a mastectomy. However, for the star of the Anne with an E series, the most haunting and devastating experience throughout her treatment was losing her hair.

"Honestly, at that time I was more afraid of losing my hair than death. Since I was a little girl, I've cherished my hair. I never thought about life and death, but the thought of not having hair made my stomach churn," she shared.
A few days before her final chemotherapy session, Miranda was forced to shave her head. Even so, when the last strands of hair fell, she said she felt a sense of relief, a kind of liberation. On her personal page, she wrote: " I realize I am beautiful because of my contributions to conversations, my humor, my compassion, and the way I treat my friends."
After recovering from a serious illness, Miranda's hair grew back, but it was darker and curlier. Eager to return to her previous straight, blonde hair, she bleached and styled it excessively, causing significant damage. After some time, she adopted a "natural beauty" lifestyle, prioritizing gentle products to repair her hair from the inside out.
Currently, at age 24 and living in New York, Miranda McKeon has been completely cancer-free since February 2022.
Despite still facing anxieties about the risk of recurrence or symptoms of premature menopause due to treatment side effects, she remains optimistic.
"At the time of treatment, I never thought my life could be as fulfilling, radiant, and confident as it is now. I never thought things could be this good, but currently, it's really great," she said.
