Mr. Huynh Van Duoc (from An Giang province) stayed in his rented room and took advantage of the holidays to rest.
Huynh Van Duoc (born in 1985, from An Giang province) has been working as a porter in Long An for the past three years. Every day, he spends his 15m² rented room alone after each shift. Like every year, this year, instead of returning home for the April 30th and May 1st holidays, he stayed to help out at a friend's car wash.
According to Mr. Duoc, during holidays, the roads are crowded, making travel time much longer. Sometimes, the round trip takes two days, leaving him no time to rest or spend time with his family before returning to work. Mr. Duoc shared: “Even though I live far away, my family and I often talk on the phone. I have an acquaintance who runs a car wash, and it's very busy during holidays , so they need help. I stay to work to avoid boredom and also to earn some extra income .” The car washing job helps Mr. Duoc earn an extra 1,000,000 - 1,500,000 VND after the holidays to cover rent, electricity, water, gasoline, etc.
During this year's holidays, Mr. Vo Van Ngoan (from Hau Giang province) also chose to stay in his rented room. Mr. Ngoan and his nephew came to Long An to work as factory workers after the Lunar New Year of 2025, following a recommendation from a relative. The two of them share a rented room to save on living expenses. Mr. Ngoan works as a factory worker at Viet Cuong Canned Food Co., Ltd. (Nhut Chanh commune, Ben Luc district) with an income of 7-10 million VND/month. His job has only been stable for a few months, so he wants to save as much as possible on expenses. Although he sometimes misses his hometown and family, he believes that at this time, he needs to prioritize essential expenses. "I've only just started working, so I don't have much money left over. I plan to work hard and save money so I can go home to visit at the end of the year," Mr. Ngoan said.
This holiday season, Mr. Vo Van Ngoan (from Hau Giang province) stayed in his rented room to save money.
Although they couldn't return home to reunite with their families during the holiday, workers like Mr. Được and Mr. Ngoan still chose their own ways to make the most of this time. For them, working overtime or resting in their small rented rooms served both as a way to relax and to earn extra income to cover living expenses.
