During the holidays, many workers do not return home.

This year, people have many days off for the April 30 and May 1 holidays, so they often choose to return to their hometowns or travel far away. However, many workers in industrial parks in Long An province choose not to return to their hometowns but instead take on seasonal work to earn extra income.

Mr. Huynh Van Duoc (from An Giang province) stays in a rented room and takes advantage of the holidays to rest.

Mr. Huynh Van Duoc (born in 1985, from An Giang province) has been working as a porter in Long An for 3 years now. Every day, he is alone in a 15m2 rented room after each shift. Like every year, on the occasion of April 30 and May 1 this year, he did not return to his hometown but stayed to help out at an acquaintance's car wash.

According to Mr. Duoc, during the holidays, the roads are crowded, so it takes a lot of time to travel. Sometimes it takes two days to go back and forth, and before I have time to rest and reunite with my family, it is time to go back to work. Mr. Duoc shared: “Even though we live far away, my family and I often call each other to chat. I have an acquaintance who runs a car wash, and during the holidays, there are many customers so they need someone to help. I stay to work to relieve boredom and also have extra income ." The car washing job helps Mr. Duoc earn an additional 1,000,000 - 1,500,000 VND after the holidays to cover rent, electricity, water, gas, etc.

During this year's holidays, Mr. Vo Van Ngoan (from Hau Giang province) also chose to stay in a rented room. Mr. Ngoan and his nephew came to Long An to work as workers after the Lunar New Year of At Ty 2025 at the recommendation of a relative. The two rented a room together to save on living expenses. Mr. Ngoan works as a worker at Viet Cuong Canned Food Company Limited (Nhat Chanh commune, Ben Luc district) with an income of 7-10 million VND/month. His job has been stable for a few months, so he wants to save as much as possible on expenses. Although he sometimes misses his hometown and relatives, he thinks that at this time, he needs to prioritize necessary expenses. "I just started working, so I don't have any extra money. I plan to work hard, spend frugally to visit home at the end of the year," said Mr. Ngoan.

This year's holiday, Mr. Vo Van Ngoan (from Hau Giang province) stayed in a rented room to save money.

Although they cannot return home to reunite with their families during the holidays, workers like Mr. Duoc and Mr. Ngoan still choose their own ways to make the most of this time. For them, working extra or resting in a small rented room is both a way to relax and earn extra income to cover their living expenses./.
