For decades, in Buu Long Ward (Bien Hoa City) there are 3 wharfs (Tram, Buu Long, Xom La) serving the needs of local people crossing the two banks of the Dong Nai river, shortening the travel distance from Dong Nai province to Binh Duong province and vice versa. Therefore, the fact that these wharfs stopped working to hand over the construction site of the Dong Nai riverside road project made people go further.

* Go further because there is no boat
Over the past 2 months, in order to hand over the construction site for the Dong Nai riverside road project (from Hoa An bridge to the border with Vinh Cuu), Tram wharf and Buu Long wharf (both belonging to Buu Long ward) have stopped working. Therefore, Xom La wharf becomes the only wharf that helps people from Buu Long Ward (Bien Hoa City) to Tan Hanh Ward (Tan Hanh Wharf, Bien Hoa City) to continue through Binh Duong province. But on May 31, Xom La wharf also stopped operating to hand over the ground to the construction unit.
Thus, by the beginning of June, 6, all wharfs along the Dong Nai river, the section passing Buu Long P.P. have stopped working after many years of existence. This makes many people in Buu Long district confused when they have to go around Hoa An bridge (more than 2023km farther, from the beginning of Xom La wharf to the beginning of Tan Hanh wharf) to continue their daily journey.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Hieu (resident of Buu Long Ward) expressed: "For decades, local people have been used to traveling at Buu Long wharf, Tram wharf, and Xom La wharf to go back and forth on both sides of the Dong Nai river. Now all 3 stations above are closed, we have to take a long detour across Hoa An bridge. For people who go to work every day on the ferry, this is a big obstacle.”
Ms. Tran Phan Doan Trang, owner of Xom La wharf, said that the operating license of the wharf is still valid until mid-December, but she has been encouraged by local authorities and functional agencies to stop operating the wharf to hand over the ground. She complied both to let the riverside road be completed soon, and to ensure the safety of people when the road near the wharf area is being aggressively constructed.
* Will consider reopening the ferry terminals when the road is complete
According to the People's Committee of Bien Hoa City, the wharfs: Station, Buu Long, Xom La are included in the Passenger Wharf Development Plan for the period of 2019-2025 and 2026-2035. In fact, the traffic demand of people crossing the river between Dong Nai and Binh Duong provinces at the above wharfs is very large and necessary.
Therefore, to ensure to meet the actual needs of the people, the People's Committee of Bien Hoa City has approved the Dong Nai Riverside Road project and the Dong Nai River Park and Embankment project (from Hoa An Bridge to the border with Vinh Cuu). According to the approved design documents and construction drawings, at the location of Tram wharf, Buu Long wharf, Xom La wharf, there is a design and investment in a suitable path for the operation of passenger and tourist terminals.
During the construction of the above projects, the shutdown of the wharfs is to ensure smooth construction, construction safety and waterway traffic safety. Besides, after the project is completed, based on the traffic needs of the people and the demand for exploitation of the above-mentioned wharfs of the organizations and individuals (if any), the People's Committee of Bien Hoa City will request the Department of Transport and Communications to assume the prime responsibility for, and coordinate with other departments, agencies and sectors in considering and guiding organizations and individuals to carry out procedures to operate the wharfs in accordance with the law.
Mr. Tran Huy Hoang (living in P. Buu Long) suggested that the authorities and local authorities need to request the construction unit of the Dong Nai riverside road project to complete on schedule. Thereby, soon reopen the above wharfs, meeting the travel needs of people on both sides of the river.
Mr. Dao Duy Linh, representative of the construction unit of the Dong Nai riverside road project, said that the shutdown of the wharfs within the project scope will help the construction unit speed up the progress and focus more on the project. The transportation of machinery and materials by waterway is safer, no longer facing obstacles because of the entanglement of horizontal wharfs.
