On the afternoon of October 16th, in Hanoi , the 10th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, for the term 2024-2029, officially began its first day of work.
Deeply saddened by the loss suffered by our compatriots.
In a brief exchange with a reporter from Dai Doan Ket Newspaper on the sidelines of the Congress, Mr. Ly Van Hai, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lao Cai province, expressed his honor and pride in attending the Congress for the first time. However, recalling the recent Typhoon No. 3, Mr. Hai couldn't help but feel moved and saddened by the heavy damage suffered by the people of Lao Cai province in particular and the northern provinces in general.

Typhoon No. 3 and its aftermath caused severe damage to Lao Cai province. According to preliminary statistics, the total damage in Lao Cai province is estimated at nearly 7,000 billion VND. Among these losses, the loss of human lives is a pain that will linger for a long time.
“Many families lost all their members; some families were left with only children surviving, becoming orphans; and some families were left with only the father. It was heartbreaking. Countless scenes of grief and damage to homes occurred. This was the most devastating and serious storm and flood in decades in Lao Cai,” Mr. Ly Van Hai recalled emotionally.
According to Mr. Hai, one of the biggest challenges for the people of Lao Cai after the storm is how to quickly stabilize their lives and restore production, while resources are extremely limited. The people have lost all their means of production, their houses have been swept away, and their fields and gardens have been flattened by mud and rocks... developing production or rebuilding their homes requires a tremendous effort to overcome these difficulties.
"Besides that, the biggest challenge is finding livelihoods, restoring production, and securing resources to repair infrastructure, especially transportation, irrigation, and school facilities... Restoring infrastructure to its original state is also very difficult," emphasized the Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lao Cai province.
Belief in the power of national unity
However, according to Mr. Ly Van Hai, since the storm occurred, the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Lao Cai province, along with the provincial Party Committee, government, and people, have felt deeply moved and warmed by the compassion of compatriots nationwide.
The spirit of solidarity and brotherhood among the people in the province, as well as throughout the country, during times of hardship has been clearly demonstrated. Within the province, organizations and individuals with the financial means have readily helped their fellow citizens, reflecting the spirit of mutual support and compassion.
“We can never forget the volunteer groups and support resources sent to our compatriots affected by the storm, the free meals provided by restaurants, the free transportation services… All of these have created a strong sense of national unity and instilled confidence in our compatriots to overcome difficulties. We have received and distributed these resources appropriately, transparently, and openly, ensuring they reach the right people and the right places.”
"Based on the functions and tasks of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, we, together with political and social organizations of the province and all levels, will continue to strengthen propaganda work and encourage people to unite to overcome the consequences. The provincial Fatherland Front will continue to mobilize philanthropists and gather the remaining resources. We will also continue to use mass media to disseminate information and call on people nationwide and businesses to continue helping the people of Lao Cai overcome the consequences according to the actual conditions," Mr. Hai said.
