The 2026 World Cup is set to reach record revenue. |
FIFA has just released its financial report for the 2023-2026 World Cup cycle, with total revenue reaching 11 billion euros. This is an unprecedented figure in the tournament's history. The period during the finals alone is expected to generate 7.7 billion euros, a 73% increase compared to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The main impetus for this leap came from expanding the number of participating teams from 32 to 48, leading to a significant increase in the number of matches and escalating television rights revenue. In addition, FIFA also maximized the use of digital platforms to increase revenue.
However, the biggest source of revenue comes from ticket sales, especially VIP tickets. FIFA estimates it will earn around 2.5 billion euros from this category, more than three times the amount earned from the 2022 World Cup. The enormous demand in the North American market, coupled with a flexible ticketing model, pushed ticket prices for the final match up to 9,300 euros.
Conversely, FIFA continues to offer affordable ticket packages, starting from just $50 , allowing fans to follow a team throughout the tournament, in order to ensure accessibility for the general public.
Revenue from sponsorships and marketing also boomed, reaching $2.3 billion , far exceeding the previous year's $1.5 billion . The participation of many large corporations and the strong financial resources of the US market demonstrate that the decision to award the hosting rights to the US, Mexico, and Canada was the right move.
With this growth trajectory, the 2026 World Cup will not only be a football festival, but also a massive money-making machine for FIFA.
