To meet consumer demand during the 2024 Lunar New Year, many manufacturers and distributors have launched gift baskets and gift boxes featuring OCOP (One Commune One Product) products, offering a wide variety of designs, guaranteed quality, and reasonable prices.

Instead of choosing luxurious gifts like imported wine, fruits, cakes, and jams, this year many people are opting for traditional local specialties and OCOP (One Commune One Product) products such as agricultural products, processed foods, functional foods, and pharmaceuticals as gifts for Tet (Lunar New Year). This has made the Tet market even more diverse and vibrant. Many OCOP producers have designed their own Tet gift baskets using products from their own businesses to give customers more choices.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai, owner of the Hong Hac incense production facility in Khanh Hong commune (Yen Khanh district), started preparing Tet gift baskets as early as November. This year, for the first time, the facility is launching gift boxes such as: "Fragrant Grass" with a relaxing, low-smoke incense; "7 Days of Fragrance" combining 6 boxes of herbal incense buds for home aromatherapy; and the "Fragrant Tet" gift basket including 1 bottle of cinnamon bark essential oil and 4 packets of incense buds for home aromatherapy with frankincense, vetiver, sandalwood, and cinnamon scents.

"For just 120,000 - 190,000 VND, customers can own a meaningful and exquisite gift basket from Hong Hac incense production facility to give to their loved ones. This year we produced about 1,000 gift boxes, and more than half have already been sold," Ms. Hoai shared.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Thanh, representative of Thanh Nguyen Agricultural Products Production and Business Cooperative, said: This Tet holiday, the cooperative has collaborated with several other OCOP (One Commune One Product) entities in the province to design gift boxes and baskets to meet the gift-giving needs of local customers and tourists . The 3-item and 5-item gift boxes feature specialties from the ancient capital region, including: water beetle fish sauce, Dong Son peach wine, Cuc Phuong golden flower tea, Tong Truong tilapia fish paste, and Thanh Nguyen braised pork with shrimp paste, priced from 500,000 VND to over 1 million VND. A unique feature is that each gift basket packaging includes a story about each product.

"These products not only offer material value but also embody the identity, cultural values, and rich history of the land and people of the ancient capital, along with the dedication of those who created them. Therefore, giving them as gifts becomes even more meaningful," shared Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Thanh.

To proactively serve the Tet market, OCOP product manufacturers have projected production volumes and developed ideas for gift basket designs using bamboo, rattan, paper bags, and other accessories. Most OCOP gift baskets are rich in products, visually appealing, and meet the diverse needs of consumers, from individual customers to businesses and corporations.

To date, Ninh Binh has 178 products recognized under the OCOP program, including many products with a distinct Tet (Lunar New Year) flavor such as various types of tea, peach wine, and processed foods. All products have been granted food safety certificates, collective trademarks, and certification marks, and have created their own unique mark on the market.

The economic situation in recent months is considered more positive than before, however, there are still no clear signs of loosening spending. People tend to shift their shopping needs from the upper-mid range to the lower-end segments, shopping more intelligently and clearly, and desiring more added value in each product and service. Instead of buying what they want, they choose to buy what they truly need. Instead of quantity and appearance, consumers choose items with high practicality, prioritizing products that are good for their health. OCOP products perfectly meet this changing consumer trend.

Ms. Bui Thanh Xuan (Tam Diep city) said: "Every year I mainly buy gift baskets of candies, cakes, and fruits for Tet; however, this year I have more choices as the market offers gift baskets made from OCOP products with reasonable prices, practical value, and beautiful designs. Especially, buying OCOP products means supporting local specialties and promoting them to friends outside the province."

Strengthening promotional and trade connections to widely develop OCOP products in the national market is Ninh Binh province's goal in the coming time. Including OCOP products in Tet gift baskets and boxes is also a solution to increase product competitiveness, spread to the market, and contribute to the development of the Ninh Binh OCOP brand. This is also one of the potential directions in commercializing OCOP products that businesses are pursuing.

Furthermore, the application of digital transformation in the distribution of OCOP products is also a tool to promote smart consumption, helping OCOP entities reach a diverse customer base more quickly; buyers benefit from convenience, find higher-quality products, and enjoy simpler payment methods.

With a focus on quality, presentation, and price, the market for Tet gift baskets made from OCOP products has started to become vibrant this year, and consumption is predicted to increase significantly in the coming days. However, consumers should choose reputable shopping locations to avoid purchasing low-quality goods.
