Unique community tourism village in Khanh Son

In recent years, Hon Dung Community Tourism Village (Son Hiep Commune, Khanh Son District) has gradually emerged as an attractive destination, especially for tourists who love to explore culture and wild nature. This place is being built to become a unique tourist destination for ethnic minorities and mountainous areas of Khanh Son District.

Attractive destination

Going up to Khanh Son this season, from the top of the pass, in the floating sea of ​​clouds in the morning, we wandered through the green mountain roads, following the To Hap river all the way west through the fruit orchards in full bloom and fruit. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hai - Chairman of the People's Committee of Son Hiep commune welcomed us at the suspension bridge of Hon Dung village with a warm, sincere handshake of the highlanders. Taking us to visit the Hon Dung village community tourism village, Mr. Hai proudly said: "Hon Dung village is one of the four villages with a large number of ethnic minorities in Son Hiep commune, still preserving many traditional beauties of the indigenous Raglai people; it is a place with many favorable conditions to develop community tourism... For that reason, in early 2025, the Hon Dung village community tourism village was recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as one of the places with potential for community tourism development in the province and many tourists from near and far have come to explore Hon Dung".

Visiting the traditional long house in Hon Dung village, we met village elder Mau Hong Thai (owner of the weaving and handicrafts establishment in Hon Dung village community tourism village) who was teaching the youth in the village how to make and play traditional musical instruments of the Raglai people such as: Chapi, Khen Bau... Elder Thai introduced to us that: In Khanh Son, there is currently only one traditional long house in Hon Dung village, which regularly organizes traditional cultural activities of the Raglai people; here also preserves a set of lithophone - a unique musical instrument dating back thousands of years. Visitors to Hon Dung village community tourism village can also immerse themselves in the traditional culture imbued with the identity of the Raglai people with rituals and customs such as: Grave abandonment ceremony, new rice eating ceremony, life cycle ritual, thanksgiving ceremony...; Learn about many types of Raglai folk art that are preserved and passed down through epic melodies, folk songs, folk dances, popularly Alôu, Siri, Sa Ngọi, Ru Tu; immerse yourself in the cultural space of gong and ma la activities or watch the making and performance of chapi - a famous musical instrument that has entered poetry, or enjoy delicious rice wine with rustic, traditional dishes of the indigenous Raglai people...

On the day we arrived, some tourists from Ho Chi Minh City also came to visit and travel to Hon Dung; many tourists expressed their delight at having an interesting experience here. “Hon Dung community tourism village has a cool, fresh climate, suitable for resort and discovery tourism activities. Coming here, we were immersed in the cultural space of gongs and ma la, explored the traditional long house, enjoyed rustic dishes and learned about the unique customs of the local people. Hon Dung is also connected to many other tourist attractions in the district such as: Exploring Ta Gu waterfall (Son Hiep commune), Doc Quy waterfall (Son Lam commune), pine forest of Son Binh commune, trekking on Ta Giang road... In particular, tourists from afar are always fascinated by the famous delicious durian gardens in Hon Dung during the fruit season", said Mr. Pham Van Hung - a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City.

Making Hon Dung a typical tourist village

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet - Head of the Department of Culture - Science and Information of Khanh Son district shared that although Hon Dung village has many conditions to develop community tourism, there is still much to do to make it an attractive tourist destination, especially the limitations in tourism infrastructure and human resources for tourism; raising awareness of community tourism for people is also an important issue... Recently, relevant departments and the People's Committee of Son Hiep commune have focused on implementing the project "Building a model of Hon Dung village community tourism village as a tourist destination in the ethnic minority and mountainous areas of Khanh Son district". The purpose is to soon turn Hon Dung village into a typical community tourism village, standing out with the unique cultural features of the Raglai people, attracting tourists and creating a driving force for local development; promoting the participation of the community, creating jobs, improving livelihoods for people, contributing to poverty reduction and socio-economic development of the locality. The goal by the end of this year is that Hon Dung Village Community Tourism Village will become a prominent tourist destination of Khanh Son district, with a basic and synchronous tourism service facility to welcome tourists, with typical tourism products associated with the culture of the Raglai people; attracting at least 5,000 visitors/year; at least 50% of households in Hon Dung village participate directly or indirectly in community tourism activities. Along with that, preserving and promoting the cultural values ​​of the Raglai people in tourism activities such as: Traditional long houses, musical instruments, costumes, cuisine, traditional rituals; the environmental landscape in the village is built green, clean, and beautiful.

Recently, the Provincial People's Committee has approved the content and level of funding support for beneficiaries at the potential location for community tourism development of Hon Dung Village Community Tourism Village, according to the provisions of Resolution No. 06/2022 of the Provincial People's Council on the level of funding to support community tourism development in the province. Accordingly, Hon Dung Village Community Tourism Village is supported with items such as: Installing a system of signs and signboards; developing tourism products; supporting initial necessary equipment for households doing accommodation business; organizing training courses, fostering knowledge and skills in serving tourists for individuals, households, and people in the community participating in providing tourism services; promoting the village's community tourism products.

Mr. Cao Minh Vy - Vice Chairman of Khanh Son District People's Committee said: "The district is urgently implementing the project, the support contents of the Provincial People's Committee to soon build Hon Dung Village Community Tourism Village to become a prominent tourist destination of Khanh Son highlands. On June 18, the District People's Committee will hold a ceremony to announce Hon Dung Village as a place with potential for community tourism development to create a positive effect, attracting tourists to visit and experience here. In addition, promote communication, promotion and call for investment in Hon Dung Village Community Tourism Village".
