The province has many advantages for developing agriculture linked to experiential tourism. With diverse natural conditions, a clean climate, characteristic mountainous landscapes, and abundant specialty agricultural products, many households have proactively built models that combine production with welcoming tourists for visits, experiences, and purchasing agricultural products right in their gardens. This is a suitable direction in the process of restructuring the agricultural sector in conjunction with building new rural areas.
In Dong Dang commune, Ly Gia Trang farm, owned by Ms. Ly Thanh Nga, is a prime example of a strawberry farm combined with experiential tourism . Ms. Nga stated: "After several visits and research into strawberry cultivation techniques in Japan, in 2020, my family experimented with various strawberry varieties and achieved success with the Korean Hana strawberry variety, covering an area of about 1 hectare. Recognizing the potential for developing experiential tourism, I continued to invest in improving infrastructure and opened the farm to visitors for sightseeing, photography, and strawberry picking. During peak season, the farm receives an average of 400-500 visitors daily from within and outside the province."
Similarly, in Van Quan commune, Mr. Nong Van Tu has developed a model of tangerine cultivation combined with experiential tourism. Instead of just harvesting and selling wholesale, he invested in renovating the orchard, pathways, and resting areas to attract visitors, allowing them to pick tangerines themselves and buy the product directly from the orchard.
Anh Tú said: "In 2019, I took advantage of the land deep in the mountain valley to invest in planting about 700 Bắc Sơn golden tangerine trees. After many years of care, by October 2025 (lunar calendar), the tangerine orchard began to yield fruit and opened its doors to visitors for sightseeing and experiences. To date, my family's tangerine orchard has welcomed over 2,000 visitors. Tourists come to the orchard not only to buy tangerines but also to enjoy the fresh air, learn about how to care for the trees, thereby helping to increase my family's income and become more proactive in the sales process."
Besides the above models, the trend of combining agriculture with experiential tourism started in 2019 and is developing strongly throughout the province. Although complete statistics are not yet available, the spread of this model is clearly demonstrated through a series of typical destinations such as: tea growing areas associated with ecotourism and agriculture ( Thai Binh commune); chestnut orchards (Luong Van Tri ward); Canh orange orchards (Vu Lang commune); ring-shaped persimmon orchards (Na Sam commune); organic vegetable farms (Huu Lung commune)...
Agricultural production models combined with experiential tourism not only help people earn extra income from entrance fees and food services but also directly promote and sell agricultural products locally. At the same time, improving gardens and creating green, clean, and beautiful spaces contributes to enhancing the rural landscape and effectively fulfilling the criteria in building new rural areas.
Mr. Hoang Van Chieu, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, assessed: Developing agriculture in conjunction with experiential tourism is a suitable direction for the province's actual conditions. These models have been and are contributing to increasing the added value of agriculture, promoting the shift in the rural economic structure, and contributing to the effective implementation of the national target program for building new rural areas. More importantly, this is clear evidence of a change in the mindset of people regarding agriculture - from purely production to multi-value agricultural economics. In the coming time, we will continue to direct specialized departments to coordinate with relevant units to promote propaganda and support cooperatives and people in developing agricultural production models with strengths linked to experiential tourism; at the same time, attract businesses to invest in the agricultural sector.
The shift in agricultural thinking, linking production with experiential tourism, is bringing a "new wave" to rural areas in the province. This is not only a direction that helps increase people's income but also an important foundation for developing sustainable, modern, and distinctive agriculture, making a significant contribution to building new rural areas in the current period.
