We had the opportunity to attend the October meeting of the My Lo neighborhood Party branch. Mr. Si Phon, the Party branch secretary, who speaks both Vietnamese and Khmer fluently, opened the meeting with a warm voice: “Our Party branch must be close to the people and discuss their needs. Party members should not only study resolutions but also mobilize the people to focus on economic development, not to wait or rely on others; and actively participate in protecting local security and order.” Mr. Si Phon's words received many nods of agreement from the Party members in the branch.
In border areas like Ha Tien, where trade is vibrant but also fraught with complexities, maintaining the people's trust is even more crucial. Regular Party branch meetings become a platform for Party members to exchange ideas, resolve difficulties, and provide timely ideological guidance. "As a young Party member, I clearly see my responsibility in spreading the spirit of being close to and understanding the people. Every time I participate in a Party branch meeting, I learn how to speak in a way that earns the people's trust, and how to ensure that the Party's directives truly become part of people's lives," shared Tran Thuong, a Party member of the My Lo neighborhood Party branch.
The Party cell of My Lo neighborhood skillfully integrated the study and implementation of resolutions, sometimes reminding residents to be vigilant against criminals exploiting the border for smuggling, and other times discussing how to jointly maintain border markers and prevent livestock from damaging them. This atmosphere instilled in Party members and the people the belief that the Party was not far away but present right in these meetings. “We innovated our meetings, discussing practical issues that concern the people. When people understand and trust, they will voluntarily participate in maintaining the area and protecting the border. This spirit is precisely the ‘people's support’ that our Party always emphasizes,” Mr. Si Phon affirmed.
The Party cell of Ward III - Phao Dai chose a unique approach: assigning Party members to be responsible for individual households, directly visiting each household to disseminate information and mobilize support. When families face difficulties, Party members provide timely assistance. “Many people in the ward work in the fishing industry or run small businesses, so we have to be tactful and sincere in everything we say. When people see that Party members not only talk but also act, such as cleaning, assisting the sick, and organizing fundraising to help poor students… they trust and follow,” said Dao Van Thol, Secretary of the Party cell of Ward III - Phao Dai.
Thanks to this close relationship, many local policies and movements have been implemented smoothly. Movements such as "All citizens unite to build a cultured life," "Bright, green, clean, and beautiful neighborhoods," and "Security and order keychains" all bear the clear imprint of the neighborhood Party branch. The previously damp, narrow alleys have now been paved with concrete and lined with lush green trees. Residents voluntarily contribute labor and resources, while the Party branch takes on the role of mobilization and connection. "Party members regularly visit the grassroots, so people feel comfortable speaking up about any issues. The bond between officials and the people is much closer," expressed Ms. Huynh Thi Xuong, a resident of Neighborhood III - Phao Dai.
When the meeting ended, the party members lingered to chat and exchange experiences in production and business. In this border region of the Fatherland, branch meetings are not simply political work but also a bridge connecting the Party's will and the people's hearts. According to Tran Ngoc Quyen, Head of the Party Building Committee of Ha Tien Ward Party Committee, in recent times, branch meetings in the ward have been well implemented by the Party Committee and Party organizations in accordance with the directives of the Party Central Committee. All branches have focused on innovating the content and methods, integrating the dissemination of policies, laws, security, and order related to the border, sea, and islands. "The Party being close to the people is not just a slogan, but is demonstrated by the branches through listening, accompanying, and resolving the most practical issues of the people. The content of the meetings closely follows political tasks linked to Party building work, especially studying and following the thoughts, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh," Ms. Tran Ngoc Quyen stated.
Amidst the rapidly developing border towns, the light from Party branch meetings still permeates the neighborhoods, illuminating the path of "the Party being close to the people, the people trusting the Party," a path as strong as the human connection on the front lines of the border.
