Leveraging the strengths of the hilly region.
On over 2.5 hectares of hillside land, Ms. Tran Thi Nga's family in Hamlet 4, Trung Thuan Commune, has invested in planting 1,600 pepper plants... This model has brought Ms. Nga's family an income of approximately 300 million VND per year. Pepper grown in Trung Thuan Commune yields high productivity, with small, fragrant peppercorns. Therefore, pepper is one of the main crops in the hilly areas of Trung Thuan, covering an area of about 121 hectares.

“My family has been growing pepper for over 10 years. The local soil is very suitable for pepper, the plants grow well, are easy to care for, have few pests and diseases, and yield high productivity. However, the pepper grains are mainly sold to traders at rather unstable prices. Pepper growers here hope to have a planned growing area, build a brand, and create a stable market for Trung Thuan pepper,” shared Ms. Tran Thi Nga.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ba, from Van Tien village, has developed a chicken farming model to gradually improve his family's economic situation and support his children's education. At one point, Mr. Ba's chicken farm supplied thousands of chicks and broiler chickens to the market each month. In 2016, he and 12 other households in the village established a cooperative for raising chickens and supplying local chicken breeds.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ba stated: “To go far, we must go together. Together with the members of the cooperative, we are expanding the scale of our livestock farming. We always ensure timely delivery and sufficient quantities of commercial chickens and native breeding stock for customers who need to purchase in large quantities. Collaboration is essential for sustainable development. We hope to acquire land to establish a centralized farm, invest in a well-equipped livestock facility, and ensure environmental hygiene.”
Following the merger, Trung Thuan commune now has 17 high-tech agricultural production and livestock farming models, developing in the direction of concentrated farms and family farms, applying modern processes and ensuring environmental hygiene. There are 6 cooperatives and 9 cooperative groups operating effectively in the area, contributing to increasing the value of production and the proportion of livestock farming in the locality.
A new impetus in the former war zone.
With a natural area of over 98 km2 and a population of nearly 17,000 people, Trung Thuan commune has ample room for development. The First Party Congress of Trung Thuan commune, for the 2025-2030 term, identified key areas for breakthroughs in attracting investment, forming concentrated raw material zones linked to agricultural and forestry product processing, and developing economic sectors suitable to local conditions.

Mr. Tuong Xuan Hai, Secretary of the Party Committee of Trung Thuan commune, said: “ With the potential of the vast hilly land, the commune is promoting the development of forest and garden economies, and farm economies towards commodity production and raw material areas. We will focus on two breakthroughs: forming raw material areas and developing local economic sectors. When these two breakthroughs are effectively implemented, we expect the third breakthrough to be attracting investors to build factories, purchase and process raw materials, and develop eco -tourism associated with cultural and historical tourism, thereby creating jobs and improving income for local people.”
Mr. Nguyen Van Linh, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Trung Thuan commune, further shared: “Trung Thuan commune has strong potential in livestock farming and crop cultivation. Besides large-scale family farms and large-scale farms, the commune is planning to link with units and businesses inside and outside the province to cultivate raw materials to supply specialized processing units. In addition to 121 hectares of pepper, Trung Thuan commune has over 30 hectares of ginger, 52 hectares of corn, 78 hectares of cassava, and 78 hectares of shallots. Currently, the locality is developing a roadmap to build brands for some key agricultural products.”
Agriculture is currently the strength of Trung Thuan commune. However, to develop Trung Thuan in a civilized and modern direction, it is necessary to focus on promoting industry, handicrafts, trade and services, and rural occupations. The local Party committee and government are leveraging all resources to consolidate and develop infrastructure, creating momentum and opening up opportunities for community tourism to take root and develop.
The Trung Thuan War Zone is a name that has gone down in the history of our homeland and country. Planning and attracting investment to develop tourism associated with the preservation of national-level historical and cultural relics is the direction the locality is currently pursuing. Mr. Tuong Xuan Hai, Secretary of the Party Committee of Trung Thuan commune, affirmed: "The Party Committee, government, and people of Trung Thuan commune today continue to innovate their thinking and act decisively, determined to make this former war zone land increasingly prosperous, sustainably developed, and in harmony with the rest of the country as it enters a new era."
