Changing the mindset about doing business

In Chien Thang hamlet, the integrated livestock farming model has been widely adopted by many households. Besides her main income from producing two rice crops per year, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Lua also raises pigs, chickens, ducks, fish, and frogs, and grows vegetables around her house. Thanks to this, her family earns over 150 million VND annually. Ms. Lua shared: “I raise a variety of livestock in moderate quantities, ensuring a stable market. Although it's small-scale farming, it provides a fairly stable income. When I sell one herd, I start another, using short-term gains to support long-term growth, covering living expenses and reducing the financial burden on my family.”

The vegetable farming model of Mr. Thieu Minh Hien's family in Tan Doi hamlet is also proving effective. Utilizing the vacant land around his house, Mr. Hien cultivates vegetables, earning extra income while waiting for the shrimp and rice harvest. He rotates short-term vegetable crops such as cabbage, water spinach, chives, and jute mallow, ensuring uninterrupted production and stable sales. Although the scale of production is not large, his systematic approach has helped his family increase their income.

These days, Mr. Hien and his wife are busy preparing the land and planting various vegetables for sale during the 2026 Lunar New Year. Mr. Hien said: "This model helps my family save on living expenses, provides a stable income of 130,000 - 250,000 VND per day, and makes life more comfortable."

Making money from passion

Driven by a passion for raising king cobra snakes since his youth, Mr. Vo Hoang Vinh, residing in Vinh Binh hamlet, has now achieved success with his king cobra breeding model, bringing high income to his family. Starting with just a few pairs of snakes caught in the wild, after many years of raising and breeding, Mr. Vinh now has over 500 breeding pairs, selling over 2,000 hatchlings annually and earning more than 150 million VND.

In the early years of expanding his snake population, Mr. Vinh did not sell the baby snakes but kept them for breeding. Starting with 3 breeding tanks, he expanded and built 12 more. Recognizing the increasing demand for snake hatchlings, Mr. Vinh raised snakes for commercial purposes while also breeding them to produce a larger number of hatchlings for his customers. This year, Mr. Vinh expects to supply more than 4,000 hatchlings.

Mr. Vinh shared: “Having pursued my passion since I was young, I never thought I would be as successful as I am today. Selling commercially raised elephantine rat snakes isn't difficult; the current market price is 600,000 - 800,000 VND/kg. Baby elephantine rat snakes cost 60,000 - 80,000 VND/each, and we can't supply enough; many people come to place deposits in advance.”

Small-scale integrated livestock farming models, although differing in approach, all share a common starting point: diligence, creativity, and a willingness to think outside the box and take risks. These small-scale economic models, with relatively low investment but sustainable effectiveness, have helped many households in Vinh Tuy commune stabilize their income, achieve a comfortable standard of living, and create a foundation for practical and long-term rural economic development.
