New competitive advantage

Stemming from the practical needs of urban areas, the NextPark project a smart parking solution developed by a group of students from Da Nang University of Technology and Education – demonstrates how digital transformation can create economic value from familiar issues in daily life.

According to urban studies, in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, approximately 30% of vehicles spend a significant amount of time searching for parking spaces, resulting in substantial waste of time and social costs, while the land allocated for parking only meets a small fraction of the actual demand. Faced with this situation, NextPark addresses this problem with a technological solution.

The team's solution is an automated parking system combining precision mechanics and AI cameras, which shortens parking and retrieval times and saves space compared to traditional parking lots. The project is designed to be flexible, leveraging existing infrastructure and integrating safety features and contactless payment.

Ha Anh Vu, a student from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and co-founder of the project, said that NextPark is designed for practical application, with mechanical details and algorithms calculated for stable operation and easy scalability.

For traditional manufacturing businesses, digital transformation is linked to competitiveness in the global supply chain. At Hoa Tho Textile and Garment Corporation, the pressure of delivery times and managing tens of thousands of workers once overwhelmed manual record-keeping. The implementation of a smart factory model has transformed the way the business operates.

Specifically, from designing patterns using 3D software, allowing customers to review them online within days, to IoT systems monitoring the productivity of each sewing line in real time, data becomes a tool to support decision-making.

Thanks to process digitization, businesses can shorten design time, increase labor productivity, and save on raw material costs, thereby increasing their competitiveness in export orders.

Similarly, at Da Nang Rubber Joint Stock Company, investing in a smart factory for radial tire production helps control quality at every stage. The automated production management system monitors formulas, warns of deviations, and retrieves data, creating a foundation for products to meet the stringent standards of the US and European markets. These models demonstrate that digital transformation is creating a new competitive landscape for the private sector.

Platform for participation in the digital economy

From the specific stories of the businesses mentioned above, it can be seen that digital transformation is only effective when placed within a sufficiently broad ecosystem, where technology does not operate in isolation within the business, but is linked to institutions, people, and the market.

According to Mr. Vu Tuan Anh, Deputy General Director of Dr. SME Restructuring and Digital Transformation Company, in order for Da Nang's private sector to directly participate in the global digital economy, the implementation of development policies needs to be approached from the perspective of synchronously upgrading the operational capacity of the entire society on a digital platform.

At the institutional level, the first foundation is a digital government and civil service, operating on data and digitized processes. When administrative procedures are processed quickly, transparently, and interconnectedly, compliance costs for businesses are significantly reduced, while creating room for new business models to be tested in a less risky environment.

According to Mr. Tuan Anh, digital government is not just about applying technology in management, but about changing the way decisions are made based on data, thereby building market trust and a constructive role for the private sector.

However, the private sector will struggle to thrive if each family and each citizen remains outside the digitalization process. When people are equipped with lifelong learning skills, information security skills, and the ability to participate in e-commerce and the platform economy, the domestic market will become more flexible and dynamic. It is from this social foundation that private businesses can expand rapidly, experiment quickly, and adapt quickly to market changes.

Simultaneously, workers need to be retrained to participate in new jobs in the digital value chain, from technical operations and system administration to knowledge services. Only when labor productivity is increased and skills are updated will the private sector be able to compete effectively in the global environment.

"The convergence of these three platforms opens up new growth opportunities for the private sector. With digital platforms, businesses can overcome geographical limitations, engage in cross-border trade, provide remote services, and connect directly with global supply chains. This is especially significant for Da Nang, where land resources and the domestic market are limited, but it has advantages in human resources, technology, and an innovative environment," Mr. Tuan Anh affirmed.
