Mbappe has joined Real Madrid, but the official deal will not be until June 30. The 25-year-old star is currently with the French national team at EURO 2024 in Germany. After the tournament, he is expected to be presented by his new club at the Bernabeu Stadium on July 16.
Mbappe suffered a nose injury and did not play in the match where France drew 0-0 with the Netherlands.
However, at present, the relationship between Mbappe and PSG has not completely ended. The Paris club is angry with the French star leaving on a free transfer, so they have withheld all of his salary and bonuses since April, with a total value of up to 100 million euros, according to L'Équipe (France).
"This amount includes PSG's salary payment to Mbappe until June 30 when the contract officially expires. Previously, Mbappe confirmed that he would give up the loyalty fee of about 80 million euros as committed to PSG to leave freely. However, PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi is said to have still paid this amount with the aim of convincing Mbappe to stay, but failed.
Therefore, the Paris team now wants to keep all of Mbappe's salary and bonuses to offset the loyalty fee. Furthermore, the confirmation that Mbappe gave up the 80 million euro loyalty fee was only a verbal agreement, without any commitment. PSG wants a document to confirm the agreement. However, after many negotiations, the parties have not yet been able to reach an agreement. Mbappe's side has filed a lawsuit and everything will be resolved in court," L'Équipe reported.
"In the lawsuit, Mbappe's side also complained to the French Professional Football League (LFP). The LFP stipulates that all clubs in the French professional league system must pay their players before the last day of the month," L'Équipe said.
Mbappe played in the match where France won 1-0 against Austria on June 18.
"Currently, the matter has not yet reached the point of being resolved by law and the two sides will continue to discuss to find a solution. For now, Mbappe's side has filed a lawsuit to protect its rights. Certainly, PSG will take legal action to defend its arguments. Negotiations will continue in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Mbappe will continue to focus on the French team at EURO 2024, as well as wait for his debut with Real Madrid on July 16," Marca (Spain) assessed the situation.
Mbappe and the French team had their opening match in Group D of EURO 2024, defeating Austria 1-0. In this match, Mbappe suffered a nose injury and had to sit out the 0-0 draw with the Netherlands on June 22. Mbappe is expected to return to play in the final match of the group stage against Poland at 11 p.m. on June 25.
