Vietnam team 0-6 Korea
"Vietnam teamplayed well against a top-class team like Korea, but it's sad that the results were not as expected. I think Vietnamese players can score two or three goals", coach Philippe Troussier said in the press conference after the match when the Vietnamese team lost 0-6 to South Korea.
Even though they lost by a large score, Coach Troussier evaluated his players' performance well. The French coach regretted some missed opportunities of Truong Tien Anh, Nguyen Dinh Bac and Khuat Van Khang.
“We use a counter-attacking defense strategy with quick players. This way, I think the Vietnamese team could have scored 2-3 goals. The players are not used to playing in this situation, but they did well." Coach Troussier said.
In the friendly match with South Korea, the Vietnamese team faced intense attacks from their opponents. Coach Troussier's students received 2 goals in the first half from the shots of stars Kim Min-jae (Bayern Munich) and Hwang Hee-chan (Wolverhampton). In the second half, the Vietnamese team lost 1 more goals.
"The two teams have a big difference physically, the Vietnamese team is not as good as Korea's in terms of tactics. This is no surprise, Korea is excellent. We understand what level we are at and are looking for ways to move forward“, said Mr. Troussier.
The French coach emphasized that the Vietnamese team is still in the process of preparing for the World Cup qualifiers. He and his colleagues will take psychological measures to help players not be negatively affected by the 0-6 loss. Coach Troussier expressed his pride when the players played hard, especially in the second half of the second half when they had to play without players when Bui Hoang Viet Anh had to receive a red card.
Coach Troussier added: “The defeat and the score were not surprising at all. Failure and score were not a surprise. We clearly see the difference in capacity and experience compared to our competitors. It's a shame having to play with 10 people on the field.
However, we fulfilled all the tactical requirements in this match. The biggest gain is experience. Vietnamese players are not used to playing in front of more than 40.000 spectators. The results of these tests will be proven over time".
