Dong Son grows

On the way to Dong Son commune (Tan Son district) in the last days of the year, we clearly felt the changes and advancement of the people here. Inter-village and inter-commune roads were concreted to ensure the travel and trade needs of the people; many social welfare works such as schools and residential cultural houses were built spaciously; people were supported to build houses, get preferential loans, receive appropriate vocational training, and transfer techniques to improve production efficiency.... Dong Son officials and people expressed their joy at enjoying the State's investment policies under the National Target Program on Socio -Economic Development for Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the period 2021-2030, Phase I from 2021 to 2025 (Program 1719).

Ben Than Cultural House, Dong Son Commune was invested and built from the capital of Program 1719.

As a remote commune with many difficulties in Tan Son - Dong Son district, there are currently 781 households, 3,623 people, of which ethnic minorities account for over 90% of the population, the rate of poor households (26.3%), near-poor households (9.6%) is still high compared to the general level of the district. In recent years, taking advantage of resources from the National Target Programs, especially Program 1719; many contents, sub-projects, projects under the Program have been focused on synchronously by the Party Committee and the communal government, promoting the internal strength of the people. Thanks to that, rural infrastructure and social security have been gradually ensured, the rate of poor and near-poor households has gradually decreased over the years. People are excited, enthusiastic about competing, working in production, and the appearance of the countryside has changed positively.

Accordingly, in the period of 2021 - 2025, Dong Son will benefit from Project 1, Project 3, Project 4, Project 6 and Project 10 under Program 1719 with a total investment of over 4 billion VND. In particular, the contents, sub-projects and projects such as: Housing support for 15 households in Ben Than area (total cost of 660 million VND) under Project 1; building a model of Community Production Group for breeding goats (including 31 households, including support for breeding goats for 30 households) under Project 3; repairing the commune's radio and television system and facilities at the commune health station (total cost of 101 million VND) under Project 4; investing in cultural institutions in Xuan 2 and Mit 1 areas (total cost of 84 million VND) under Project 6 have now been disbursed. Thereby contributing to gradually stabilizing life and increasing income for local people.

Mr. Dang Van Linh's family - a Dao ethnic group in Ben Than area, Dong Son commune has 5 members, is a poor household, and does not have a permanent house. Understanding the family's situation and wishes, the Party Committee and the commune government have submitted to competent authorities for consideration and support to build a house for his family. In 2023, Mr. Linh's family is one of 3 poor households in Ben Than area to benefit from Project 1 (Program 1719).

Leading us to visit the solid house, Mr. Linh excitedly shared: Before, my family lived in a makeshift wooden house with palm leaves. Due to unstable jobs and many children, although we tried to save, my wife and I still did not have enough money to build a new house. Luckily, the State supported 44 million VND, I borrowed 40 million more from the district Social Policy Bank, the rest was saved by the family and supported by the villagers with working days. This year, my family has a new house to celebrate Tet, my wife and I are very happy, determined to work hard to stabilize the economy soon, and escape poverty.

Determining that the effective implementation of Program 1719 will be a "lever" for the locality to "transform", develop the economy, and increase people's income; ensuring that the Program is completed on schedule, the locality has actively reviewed and selected beneficiaries of support projects in accordance with regulations, objectively and transparently. At the same time, proactively and closely coordinated with the district's functional departments and units; promoted and encouraged people to participate in vocational training classes for rural workers according to the Program, focusing mainly on agricultural and non-agricultural occupations such as: Raising and preventing and treating diseases for livestock and poultry, repairing agricultural machinery...; promoted communication to preserve and promote the good traditional cultural values ​​of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development; commended and honored advanced models, promoted the role of prestigious people in the community, contributing to preserving and promoting traditional cultural values ​​and national identity.

Participating in training courses on technical advances in agricultural production and taking advantage of local advantages, many households in Dong Son commune have developed a cold-water sturgeon farming model, providing stable income.

Currently, Dong Son commune is completing documents to support 26 households to buy water tanks and 31 households to buy machinery to change jobs to serve agricultural production; submitting to the District People's Committee for approval of the project of raising buffaloes for breeding for 26 households in Mit 1 and Xuan 2 areas and making an investment estimate to build cultural houses in 8 residential areas in the area.

Comrade Ha Thanh Giap - Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said: From the capital sources of National Target Programs in general, Program 1719 in particular has brought positive results in socio-economic development, hunger eradication and poverty reduction, gradually improving the material and spiritual life of the people of Dong Son commune.

In the coming time, in order for the program to be implemented effectively and synchronously; the locality will continue to closely follow the plan, directives and instructions from the superiors to organize effective implementation; promote extensive propaganda to all classes of people, create a strong change in awareness and action, promote and arouse the spirit of self-reliance, avoid waiting and relying; closely coordinate with specialized sectors to survey, prepare documents, appraise, propose approval of projects; strengthen the work of inspecting and evaluating the effectiveness of the Program, ensuring publicity and democracy according to the principle of "People know, people discuss, people do, people inspect, people supervise, people benefit" in the management and use of resources associated with the implementation of the Regulations on Democracy at the grassroots level...
