Step-by-step escape from poverty
Today, Dong Tau boasts vast, verdant acacia forests stretching as far as the eye can see; irrigation systems and even the village's concrete roads have been renovated. Particularly noteworthy are the newly built, sturdy houses of the Dao and Tay people, nestled around the golden, ripe rice paddies, further enhancing the picturesque and charming landscape.
Thanks to funding from the National Target Program, many construction projects have been started, contributing to the improvement and strengthening of infrastructure in Dong Tau.
Right at the entrance to Dong Tau village, a spacious village cultural center stands out, built with funding from the National Target Program for socio -economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, costing over 600 million VND.
Also from the investment resources of the National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, the People's Committee of Luong Thien commune has allocated funds to invest in 3 sets of public address systems in the villages; provided capital support and livestock to people to develop production. Livelihood models such as planting acacia trees and raising pigs have helped many households achieve a relatively comfortable standard of living.
Mr. Tran Ngoc Thai's family is a prime example of successful economic development, with nearly 20 goats, 50 pigs, and over 13 hectares of acacia trees. Each year, he earns hundreds of millions of dong. "Before, I only thought about what we would eat tomorrow, but now I think about how to sell what I produce for a better price," Mr. Thai said with a gentle smile.
Change your mindset and your way of doing things.
Dong Tau village has 96 households with 375 inhabitants, 76% of whom are Dao ethnic people. Forestry and livestock farming account for the main economic components of the village. Dong Tau currently has 500 hectares of acacia trees, approximately 50 goats, and 700 pigs.
After three years of implementing the National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, Dong Mau has taken on a completely new appearance.
In Dong Tau village, Luong Thien commune (Son Duong district), there are no longer any temporary or dilapidated houses.
The old stilt houses of the past are fewer and fewer, replaced by more and more sturdy houses springing up in Dong Tau. Mr. Duong Van Tuan, the head of Dong Tau village, proudly boasts that the village now has over 20 newly built, spacious houses worth 300 million VND or more. Along with 5 houses recently built with government support from national target programs, the entire village no longer has any temporary or dilapidated houses.
Comrade Dang Van Long, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Luong Thien commune, emphasized: “The National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas has become a major resource, creating a strong impetus for Dong Tau's comprehensive development. After 3 years of implementing the program, Dong Tau has become a shining example in infrastructure construction, poverty reduction, and building a new cultural life. The changes in Dong Tau come not only from concrete roads or electricity, but also from the transformation in the mindset and awareness of the people. The mentality of dependence and reliance on subsidies has been gradually eliminated. The Dao people here have built livestock pens away from their homes to prevent disease and protect water sources. Child marriage and consanguineous marriage have significantly decreased. By the end of 2024, the village had an additional 22 households escaping poverty. Now, Dong Tau only has 8 poor households, accounting for 11%.”
Dong Tau today is different. A vibrant Dao village, bustling with the harvest season and adorned with colorful flags and flowers, is emerging, igniting faith in the policies and guidelines of the Party and the State.
