Dong Thap 1975 - Opening a new chapter

DTO - For every individual, locality, or nation, a particular moment can become a special milestone. And indeed, April 30, 1975, marked the beginning of a new chapter for Vietnam in general, and Dong Thap in particular. April 30, 1975, was the day the resistance war against the US, for national liberation, ended. The resistance war achieved complete victory, reunifying the country and bringing joy to the entire nation – peace! The aspiration for unity, peace, and independence spurred the entire nation to "march" relentlessly, and that effort led to the sweet taste of a resounding victory that echoed across the five continents. That triumphant anthem opened a new journey for the homeland, and now it creates another, even more expansive journey.

In Vietnam's modern history, the victory of the War of Resistance against the US, for national salvation, is considered the most glorious milestone. Along with the rest of the country, the Party Committee and people of Dong Thap endured many hardships and sacrifices, continuously "holding their ground," fighting tenaciously to "reclaim land," "reclaim people," and finally, seize power for the people. This protracted, arduous, and fierce war was forged and refined by the fine traditions of the Vietnamese nation and further enhanced through the conflict.

It was patriotism and revolutionary heroism; the spirit of unity and the mobilization of the entire people's strength; the resourcefulness, initiative, and creativity of the resistance forces; the self-reliance and self-strengthening spirit – "using our own strength to liberate ourselves" – of all strata of the people; the unwavering will, daring to think, daring to act, and daring to take responsibility of the cadres; and the close, inseparable bond between the Party Committee and the people, and between the army and the people, like "fish and water." The victory in the resistance war against the US opened a new chapter in history, allowing the Party Committee and the people of Dong Thap to continue writing the heroic epic of building a prosperous, beautiful, and civilized homeland.

Despite suffering the consequences of war, the obstacles of a poor homeland, the unfavorable conditions of a remote region, and the aggression of external forces along the border, the Party Committee and people of Dong Thap have persevered and steadfastly built a new society. First and foremost, they have focused on building a people's government from the provincial level to the grassroots. Through years of consolidation and improvement, the government apparatus has become "friendly," "accompanying," and is undergoing "digitalization" to be closer to the people, serving and caring for the legitimate rights and interests of citizens and businesses. Many indicators show that the people and businesses agree with and support the "constructive" government in particular and the political system in general.

Overcoming numerous obstacles of the "subsidized economy era," production and business activities were allowed to "break free" and "overcome barriers" to revive themselves. In particular, the decisive, creative, and tireless "Conquering the Dong Thap Muoi" campaign by leaders and farmers created a diverse, modern agricultural landscape and prosperous rural villages. This foundation served as a premise for a startup movement with unique OCOP (One Commune One Product) initiatives that conquered both domestic and international markets. From here, infrastructure, especially roads, was rapidly developed, creating momentum for the formation of urban areas and connecting key regions. Consequently, physical and technical infrastructure, including numerous IT centers, internet centers, schools, hospitals and clinics, training and recreational facilities, etc., "sprung up like mushrooms," contributing to raising the intellectual level of the population, training talents, and enriching the spiritual and physical lives of the people.

Over the years, political security, social order, and safety have been fundamentally maintained, and people live in peace and a healthy society. The contingent of cadres, civil servants, and officials within the political system has been consistently strengthened, possessing sufficient capacity and qualities to meet the demands of each stage of the revolution and adapt quickly to new circumstances. These factors have contributed to the creation of "A place like that" - "A place worth living in!"

Since 1975, under the leadership of the Party Committee, the "New Journey" has transformed Dong Thap, and its people are gradually approaching modernity and civilization. The image of Dong Thap as a place where "mosquitoes buzzed like flutes and leeches swarmed like noodles" now only remains in the memories of a few, a sweet song to remember a bygone era. Following the victory of the resistance war against the US, the socio-economic achievements of the past 50 years are the result of extraordinary efforts by ordinary people. They not only uphold the fine traditions of the nation but also cultivate new qualities of "compassion, dynamism, creativity" and a high degree of adaptability to the unpredictable changes of an unforeseen world.

With invaluable assets as their foundation, the people of Dong Thap will confidently embark on a "New and Expanding Journey" and continue to make a significant mark in the new era. With a larger land area and a larger population, the "new Dong Thap people" will have more opportunities to develop their internal strengths and leverage external resources to rise to prominence. They will be like "Phu Dong" when they deeply integrate into both local and inter-provincial communities, navigate the market economy, master modern production tools, and embrace democracy and civilization. Of course, like previous struggles, this "New and Expanding Journey" will undoubtedly face difficulties, even losses and sacrifices. More than ever, the people of Dong Thap need to be intelligent to make the right choices, courageous to be decisive, tolerant to harmonize, collaborative to progress together, and united to possess sufficient strength.

From any perspective, April 30, 1975, remains a milestone that completely transformed the reality of Vietnam in general and Dong Thap in particular. For the Party Committee and all strata of people in Dong Thap today, April 30, 1975, is a lifeline that revived a "dormant" land and inspired the realization of aspirations – the aspirations of a nation to live in a unified, independent, and peaceful country. And from here, a vast horizon will surely open up: prosperity and civilization.
