In Bloomberg 's Power On newsletter, analyst Mark Gurman said the iPhone is in a historic transition era, with plans to launch three completely new models in three consecutive years.
Specifically, according to the report, Apple will launch the first foldable iPhone in 2026. Then, in 2027, Apple will introduce a completely new high-end iPhone version, with a curved glass screen and a camera hidden under the screen.
In addition to product upgrades, Apple is significantly changing its release schedule for new phone models. Historically, iPhones have been released in the fall to coincide with the important holiday shopping season.
However, this model is showing its downsides: unbalanced revenue, pressure on engineering teams and supply chains, and culminating in the rushed launch of Apple Intelligence in 2024.
To solve this, from 2026 onwards, Apple plans to split the iPhone launch into two waves. As usual, the fall is still the time to launch three high-end models, including the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and especially the new foldable iPhone next year.
Meanwhile, about 6 months later, lasting until spring 2027, Apple will launch the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and possibly an upgraded version of the iPhone Air.
Gurman revealed that this pattern is expected to continue in the coming years, meaning Apple will release 5-6 new models each year.
Beyond the iPhone, this change also applies to software, with increasingly important spring releases, like the new Siri that will be integrated into iOS 26.4, which is expected to launch in 2026.
