Recognizing the demand from families in central Da Nang who want to take their young children back to the countryside of Hoa Vang on weekends to learn about rural life and the hard work of people in cultivating clean agricultural products, farmers in Truong Dinh village have organized a watermelon festival so that visitors can freely experience harvesting watermelons.
Visitors experience picking and carrying melons in the melon fields of Truong Dinh village.
According to Thanh Nien newspaper on the afternoon of July 9th, a large number of tourists participated in the first-ever Truong Dinh Watermelon Festival, organized by the Truong Dinh Ecological Agricultural Tourism Cooperative (HTX) and local farmers.
The group of tourists enjoyed "playing the role" of farmers, going down to the fields and picking melons by hand.
The children were brought by their parents to the countryside of Hoa Vang to experience life as a farmer.
According to Mr. Pham Tan Hung, Chairman of the Cooperative, this activity was facilitated by the local government to support watermelon farmers in terms of output, contributing to promoting and spreading the Truong Dinh watermelon brand to a wider audience, and simultaneously forming an experiential tourism model to attract tourists.
Farmers in Truong Dinh village enthusiastically guide tourists on how to choose, pick, and carry melons.
For the melon growers in Truong Dinh village, welcoming tourists from all over to experience their work is exciting, as these farmers, with their hands and feet covered in mud, try their hand at being tour guides.
Experiential tourism models in the rural areas of Hoa Lien, Hoa Bac, Hoa Ninh communes, etc., are increasingly developing, becoming a popular weekend destination for tourists.
While guiding the group of tourists on how to identify and choose watermelons with firm flesh, farmer Mai Thi Xi smiled and said that taking photos with tourists was just like being a professional tour guide.
Ms. Xi said that selling watermelons to traders often resulted in low prices and slow sales. However, at the watermelon festival, her family tried their hand at tourism, and the watermelons sold much faster.
Combining melon farming with experiential tourism has helped melon farmers sell their produce much more successfully.
Recently, after many tourists came to the countryside of Hoa Vang District to experience life as a farmer, the elderly farmers have shown many positive changes in their communication and behavior.
