Bai Tu Long tourism: The door has opened.

Việt NamViệt Nam26/03/2025

Following the announcement of 10 sightseeing routes in Bai Tu Long Bay and 3 routes connecting Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay, Quang Ninh province officially launched the Bai Tu Long Bay sightseeing and tourism routes on March 29, 2025. This significant event demonstrates Quang Ninh's efforts in exploiting the tourism potential of Bai Tu Long Bay.

According to Decision No. 2119/QD-UBND dated July 19, 2024, of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee, 10 itineraries on Bai Tu Long Bay will take tourists to explore prominent landmarks such as: Tay Hoi Island, Nha Tro Cave, Phat Co Cave, Hon Xep Park, Lao Vong fishing village, Cai Lim beach, Minh Chau Island, Ngoc Vung Island, Quan Lan Island… Each itinerary offers different experiences, from admiring magnificent natural landscapes to learning about the cultural life of local fishermen.

Bai Tu Long National Park has many destinations included in the Bai Tu Long Bay tourist route, which was inaugurated in March 2025. In the photo: A corner of Ba Mun Island in Bai Tu Long National Park.

Many destinations on the announced itineraries are within the boundaries of Bai Tu Long National Park. To ensure readiness for visitors and to launch tours within the park in compliance with legal regulations while preserving the landscape and biodiversity, the Bai Tu Long National Park Management Board has intensified coordination with relevant agencies and units to prepare for welcoming tourists.

Accordingly, the National Park Management Board has coordinated with Viettel Quang Ninh to deploy telecommunications infrastructure to cover all areas with poor telecommunications coverage within the park, creating favorable conditions for resource management and protection, controlling tourism activities in the future, and especially ensuring a smooth experience for tourists on social media while visiting and exploring the park; and has also coordinated with Mai Quyen One-Member Limited Company to soon install a warning sign system along the national park's tour route.

Mr. Pham Quoc Viet, Head of the Science and International Cooperation Department of the Bai Tu Long National Park Management Board, added: Along with coordinating with localities and businesses, the Bai Tu Long National Park Management Board will review and compile a list of ancient tree species (focusing on species with scientific and cultural value in the local area) to propose their recognition as Vietnamese Heritage Trees. This will contribute to increasing the unique value of Bai Tu Long National Park and guide businesses in developing experiential tourism products in the forest, discovery tourism, etc. We will also develop a plan for biodiversity conservation linked to tourism development in the short and long term.

When Quang Ninh province launched its Bai Tu Long Bay tourism route, with attractions within the national park, visitors could experience sightseeing from boats or overnight cruises. However, planned tourism products such as trekking, sightseeing, and exploring the forest ecosystem have only been permitted in the ancient Melaleuca forest on Minh Chau island commune, Van Don district. Of the 156 recognized heritage trees in the national park, visitors can now access 150. The Bai Tu Long National Park Management Board still needs to finalize conservation plans and strategies for the remaining 6 heritage trees, including 3 ancient Melaleuca trees and 3 ancient Melaleuca oleracea trees, before they can welcome visitors.

The Heritage Journey is a pioneering tourism product connecting Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay, developed by Viet Thuan Transport Company Limited.

Regarding the three tour itineraries connecting Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay, tourists can depart from Tuan Chau Port (Ha Long City) and participate in overnight cruises on the bay provided by Viet Thuan Transport Co., Ltd. Tourists can visit several islands in Bai Tu Long Bay such as Thang Loi, Ngoc Vung, Quan Lan, Minh Chau, or have the opportunity to visit Co Cave, Thay Cave, Cap La Cave, etc. This heritage tour connecting the two heritage regions was launched by the company in May 2024. Unlike before, where tourists had to return to Ha Long Bay for an overnight stay after visiting Bai Tu Long Bay, in the future, tourists can stay overnight at designated overnight accommodation points in Bai Tu Long Bay. This makes tourism products in Bai Tu Long Bay more convenient, diverse, and enriching for tourists, while also being more cost-effective for businesses, thereby encouraging more businesses to participate in providing such services.

To develop the fleet in Bai Tu Long Bay, Quang Ninh province is considering approving a plan to develop the fleet in Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay, linked to a communication plan for opening Bai Tu Long Bay for tourism. The plan encourages steel-hulled tourist boats currently operating in Ha Long Bay to register and relocate their operations to Bai Tu Long Bay. By 2025, it is expected that 100 tourist boats will be added. During the period 2026-2030, the province will annually review and announce the number of added boats, ensuring that the total number of boats and total tonnage do not exceed the tourism capacity announced by the competent authority. The goal is to achieve 100% of tourist boats being newly built or replaced with steel hulls (or equivalent materials) by 2030. At the same time, it is encouraged to build new tourist boats with a capacity of 200 passengers or more, double-bottomed accommodation vessels, and to improve technical safety and environmental protection standards and conditions, while providing high-quality services.
