- This year's New Year's holiday marks a significant start to tourism in Lang Son. While not noisy or overly crowded, the arrival of tourists in the early days of the year has opened up new hopes for the local tourism industry after a year of recovery efforts and is paving the way for 2026.
Lang Son's tourism sector has just concluded 2025 with many notable achievements. Specifically, in 2025, the province welcomed approximately 4.44 million tourists, reaching 100.9% of the plan, a 5.3% increase compared to the same period; total tourism revenue reached approximately 4,500 billion VND, a 3.47% increase. These figures create an important foundation for Lang Son's tourism sector to enter the new year with a more proactive mindset.
Visitors were impressed by the first arrival of the year.
Under the warm weather of the first morning of the new year 2026, at Huu Nghi International Border Gate, the Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion of Lang Son province, in coordination with relevant units, solemnly organized a program to welcome the first group of international tourists entering Lang Son. The group consisted of 40 Chinese tourists, who entered through Huu Nghi International Border Gate. According to the itinerary, the group will experience typical landmarks in several wards and communes of the province such as: Dong Dang Mother Goddess Temple, Phai Ve Flagpole, Tam Thanh Cave, Hoang Van Thu Monument Park...
Ms. Wei Xue Fang, a tourist from Haikou, Hainan, China, shared: "I feel extremely honored and moved by the warm welcome from the authorities of Lang Son province as soon as I set foot through the border gate. Not only impressed by the enthusiasm and hospitality of the people, we also highly appreciate the dedicated support from the authorities, which made all immigration procedures and our travel journey incredibly smooth and convenient. This is definitely a wonderful start to our trip in Vietnam."

Ms. Phuong's experience reflects the shared feelings of many tourists visiting Lang Son. According to information from the Huu Nghi International Border Gate Border Guard Station, on January 1st, 2026, the unit processed procedures for over 6,300 passengers entering and exiting the country; of which, nearly 3,000 were entering. The actual number of visitors at the Huu Nghi International Border Gate demonstrates the strong appeal of Lang Son tourism in the early days of 2026.
In reality, tourist attractions such as the Mac Dynasty Citadel and the Dong Kinh Market area show that the number of visitors in the first days of the new year is quite stable. The majority of visitors are small families and tourists visiting, shopping, and experiencing the New Year atmosphere. Ms. Hoang Hong Chien, a small business owner at Dong Kinh Market, Dong Kinh Ward, shared: "Having customers at the beginning of the year is already a blessing. Tourists visiting during this time are not in a hurry, so they examine goods more carefully, asking about origin and quality. This requires us business owners to prioritize long-term reputation and quality, rather than chasing short-term profits."
The positive signals from tourism in the first days of the new year are the result of the province's product development and destination promotion efforts in recent times. Specifically, in 2025, the Quynh Son community tourism village will be honored by the United Nations Tourism Organization as the "Best Tourism Village of 2025," becoming a representative image of Lang Son tourism on the international map. 2025 also marks an important milestone when Lang Son province officially receives the UNESCO Lang Son Global Geopark certification…
Positive signs
Based on that foundation, the 2026 New Year's holiday is seen as the first "warm-up" step for the tourism industry in the new year. Mr. Luu Ba Mac, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said: In order to thoroughly prepare the conditions to welcome tourists during the New Year's holiday, the department has issued a document on ensuring the service of tourists in the province. The department also requested units and businesses operating in the tourism sector in the province to strictly comply with the regulations of the law on travel business, tourism transportation, tourism accommodation, management of tourist attractions and services for tourists; and to properly implement the code of conduct for cultural and civilized tourism.

Regarding accommodation establishments in the province, most maintained average occupancy rates, primarily serving individual travelers and small families. Food and sightseeing services were well-organized, avoiding overcrowding. Proactively opening and maintaining service quality from the beginning of the year is considered a necessary preparation, demonstrating the readiness of tourism businesses before the peak season.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan, a tourist from Hanoi, said: "My family chose Lang Son as our destination for the New Year's holiday because it's not too far, not too crowded, has stable services, and friendly people. Traveling during this time is very relaxing; the whole family doesn't need to visit many places, just a relaxing start to the year is enough."
Entering the new year, building on the initial signals and foundations established in 2025, Lang Son's tourism industry continues to focus on improving service quality and renewing products by deeply exploiting cultural and historical values, community tourism, and ecotourism associated with the UNESCO Global Geopark.
The New Year's holiday is still ongoing, but initial signs indicate a proactive approach from Lang Son tourism as it enters the new year. This lays the groundwork for Lang Son tourism to continue its flourishing, paving the way for a more stable and sustainable year of development.
