Tourists experience a day trip at the Lam Kinh National Special Historical Site (Lam Son commune).
On weekends, Ms. Phuong Hoa (Ham Rong ward) often travels with her friends or family to local tourist destinations such as the Lam Kinh National Special Historical Site, Ho Dynasty Citadel, and Pu Luong Community Ecotourism Area to explore and discover. Ms. Hoa believes that: "Short trips suit the modern lifestyle because of their flexibility and the significant time and cost savings. Since I can only arrange time on weekends, I often plan short trips to explore and experience tourist areas, cultural values, and landscapes in my hometown or other localities. Moreover, in recent years, thanks to the boom in information technology, tourists can book rooms, buy bus tickets, find restaurants, and check itineraries on social media. This makes short trips or self-guided tours easier and more convenient."
Short-term tourism is becoming a popular trend, focusing on nearby, easily accessible destinations that offer relaxation, healing, or cultural experiences. Among these, the Pu Luong Community Ecotourism Area (Pu Luong commune) is currently a top choice for tourists, especially those from within the province. According to representatives managing several resorts there, while long holidays used to be the "golden season" for the tourism industry, short-term tourism is now dominant, favored by a large number of tourists, especially young travelers. Instead of spending a whole week on a long trip, many people choose 1-3 day trips, prioritizing short distances, convenient transportation, and quick but high-quality experiences.
This shift in travel habits has forced resorts and homestays in Pu Luong to constantly innovate in terms of accommodation, facilities, personnel, and services to meet the needs of tourists, especially during peak seasons such as holidays and summer when the number of visitors to Pu Luong can surge. Along with this, there is a focus on renewing tourism products and increasing experiential activities to enrich tourists' itineraries, such as organizing hiking trips, exploring villages, mountain climbing, trekking, and cultural exchange programs with the Thai and Muong ethnic groups living in the area.
In recent years, the Lam Kinh National Special Historical Site (Lam Son commune) has also attracted a large number of tourists who come to visit and experience it on weekends. Ms. Bui Anh Tuyet, Deputy Director of the Management Board of Ho Citadel Heritage and Key Relics of Thanh Hoa Province, said: "In recent years, the majority of visitors to the relic site are students, families, groups, or veterans on day trips. To meet the needs of tourists, the management board has implemented a Smart travel platform to serve tourism. By simply using a smartphone and downloading the Smart travel platform application, tourists can completely learn about the destination beforehand through a virtual tour designed to be completely realistic. In addition, the board has increased the number of electric vehicles to take tourists around the Lam Kinh forest and the tombs to explore. Maintaining a green, clean, and beautiful environment and planting more flowers to create more check-in points for tourists is also emphasized to create an attractive green space."
According to travel agencies, short-term travel is gaining popularity amidst busy lifestyles. Instead of long trips, tourists prefer 1-3 day itineraries that are convenient to travel in, reasonably priced, and still ensure relaxation and experiences. Recognizing the growing trend of short-term travel, travel agencies and accommodation establishments in the province have quickly developed many suitable products with flexible itineraries, combining sightseeing and relaxation, such as: Sam Son - Pu Luong; Sam Son - Ho Dynasty Citadel - Cam Luong Sacred Fish Stream; Lam Kinh National Special Historical Site - Ma Village...
