The weather in Southern Vietnam is starting to get hot, coinciding with the "March, the old lady goes to sea" (a folk saying among fishermen: Going to sea in the third lunar month is the best) and the April 30th - May 1st holiday in 2024. With the growing popularity of beach and island tourism, Phu Quy Island is predicted to become a "hot" destination in the coming months…
Meeting up during the recent Lunar New Year holiday, Tuan Anh (residing in Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City) and his close friends unanimously agreed to return to Phu Quy Island as soon as the weather is calm and the sea is still. Having experienced the island district last summer, this group of young people was very impressed with its pristine, peaceful beauty and the friendliness and hospitality of the local people. Therefore, the upcoming trip is even more exciting, and they are planning to explore the landscapes and enjoy the many famous delicacies associated with Phu Quy Island.
As for Mr. Chien (from Da Lat , Lam Dong province), he had planned a trip to Phu Quy Island for his entire family, including three generations, since the Covid-19 pandemic, but due to concerns about seasickness, he hasn't been able to do it until now. Recently, through various media channels and social networks, Binh Thuan's "pearl island" has become even more attractive to tourists as the "March, the month for old ladies to go to sea" approaches. Mr. Chien said that this time he is determined to arrange his time, ideally during the April 30th - May 1st holiday this year, to take his family from the mountain town to experience the island district for the first time...
Located approximately 56 nautical miles southeast of Phan Thiet city, Phu Quy district is gradually becoming a popular destination for most travelers seeking to explore remote islands. This is especially true since the opening of the Dau Giay - Phan Thiet and Phan Thiet - Vinh Hao expressways in Binh Thuan province, significantly shortening travel time to the "resort capital." Furthermore, transportation from the mainland to the island district is more convenient than before thanks to modern and comfortable passenger transport options invested in by businesses, such as high-speed ferries like Superdong-PQI, Superdong-PQII, Phu Quy Express, and Tuan Chau Express II.
Despite its small area of only about 17.82 km2, Phu Quy boasts numerous historical sites (3 national-level historical sites, 7 provincial-level historical sites), scenic spots with pristine and unique features, and several small islands surrounding it. For example, Trieu Duong Bay stands out with its white sand beaches and clear blue waters; Cao Cat Mountain features Linh Son Pagoda with its cliffs shaped like rocks eroded by wind; and the flagpole affirming national sovereignty… With its allure as a destination in the middle of the ocean, Phu Quy tourism welcomed over 166,500 visitors in 2023, compared to only 95,300 the previous year. In February of this year – the month of the Lunar New Year 2024 (Year of the Dragon) – despite unfavorable weather disrupting operations, passenger transport vehicles still made 162 trips to and from both ends of the route, transporting over 31,460 passengers, including nearly 9,300 tourists visiting Phu Quy Island.
Recently, in the announcement of the ferry schedule on the Phan Thiet - Phu Quy route and vice versa (second replacement) from March 15 - 31, 2024, the Phu Quy Port Management Board stated that the number of passengers continues to increase significantly on weekends. Therefore, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays each week, there will be 8-10 ferry trips departing from Phan Thiet to Phu Quy and from the island district back to the mainland to meet the travel needs of both locals and tourists. Forecasting that from April, during the calm sea season, until the peak summer of 2024, tourism activities in Phu Quy island district will continue to be vibrant with a high increase in visitors due to the attractiveness and popularity of this destination.
Do not bring plastic waste to the island.
Phu Quy Island recently held a ceremony to launch a campaign against plastic waste, urging tourists not to bring plastic waste onto the island. This is considered one of the practical activities aimed at completely eliminating plastic waste in Phu Quy. Accordingly, the entire island district has joined hands in taking action against plastic waste, encouraging tourists not to throw garbage into the sea or bring plastic waste onto the island…
