Quang Ninh tourism develops sustainably.

In recent years, the province's tourism industry has gradually affirmed its brand and position, making Quang Ninh one of the major tourism centers in the country.

Recovery and strong growth

Quang Ninh boasts a diverse and rich array of tourism resources, from natural to cultural, home to 22 ethnic groups living together with unique cultural identities; it possesses over 600 historical sites and scenic spots. Among these are many unique resources of regional and world-class caliber, such as Ha Long Bay, Bai Tu Long Bay, and the Yen Tu historical and scenic site…

With the goal of building Quang Ninh into a tourism hub connecting with the region and internationally, a leading national tourism destination, a high-end resort and entertainment center with a synchronized and modern infrastructure; diverse, unique, high-quality tourism products, strong brands and global appeal; and high competitiveness... In recent years, the province has focused on directing the implementation of many solutions and tasks; concentrating investment resources from all economic sectors to develop a synchronized and modern urban transportation infrastructure, services, and culture and sports system. The province has successfully implemented three strategic breakthroughs, making breakthroughs in development and perfecting the socio-economic infrastructure system; especially strategic transportation infrastructure with all types (roads, expressways, airports, international passenger ports...). Among these, the Van Don International Airport, the Ha Long - Cam Pha coastal road, the Van Don - Mong Cai expressway, the Ha Long International Cruise Port, Tuan Chau, Ao Tien… are not only modern, world-class transportation projects but also popular tourist attractions.

Improved planning and transportation infrastructure have become the foundation for many businesses to invest in large-scale projects. World-class tourism products are gradually emerging, such as: Tuan Chau International Tourist Area and Golf Course; Legacy Yen Tu - MGallery Resort; Quang Hanh High-End Hot Spring Resort; FLC Ha Long Resort and Golf Course Complex... Outstanding cultural and tourism facilities such as: the Museum - Library - Planning and Exhibition Center complex, Hon Gai beach... have become indispensable destinations for tourists visiting Quang Ninh.

The period from 2011 to 2019 saw a rapid increase in the number of tourists visiting Quang Ninh, with a compound annual growth rate of approximately 10.2%. In 2020-2021, the tourism industry nationwide, and in Quang Ninh in particular, was severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, resulting in a sharp decline in tourist numbers. However, thanks to flexible and safe adaptation policies, Quang Ninh's tourism quickly regained its growth momentum after more than two years of disruption; in 2022, the total number of tourists reached 11.6 million, and in 2023, it reached 15.56 million.

In 2024,   The tourism sector has achieved many impressive targets in terms of visitor numbers and revenue, continuing to be a key economic sector contributing to the province's development and growth. The total number of visitors to Quang Ninh reached over 19 million, an increase of 22% compared to 2023; of which, domestic visitors reached 15.2 million (an increase of 13%); and international visitors reached 3.8 million. Total revenue from tourism reached VND 46,550 billion, contributing 9.64% to the province's GRDP. The province introduced 67 new tourism products to serve tourists; and organized more than 150 programs, events, and activities to stimulate tourism, including many successful international and domestic events that left a great impression on businesses and international tourists regarding the province's tourism potential.   Provinces have actively participated in various tourism events, including: welcoming the Clipper Race 2023-2024 round-the-world sailing race to Quang Ninh; the Ha Long Carnival 2024; the Asia-Pacific Robot Competition (ABU Robocon); the Asian Police Taekwondo Championship 2024; marathons, sports competitions, and the Quang Ninh Food Festival 2024... Localities and businesses in the province have actively explored and invested in developing new tourism products such as the Wyndham Sonasea Van Don hotel complex and the Angsaga Quan Lan hotel…

Promising a breakthrough

Quang Ninh remains steadfast in its commitment to developing tourism in a green and sustainable manner, linked to the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values; developing tourism in a truly professional and modern way, focusing on depth; gradually building Quang Ninh into an international tourism center, a leading national tourism hub, a high-end resort and entertainment center with a synchronized and modern infrastructure; possessing diverse, unique, high-quality tourism products, strong brands, and global appeal; having high competitiveness and effective linkages with airlines, cruise lines, and leading international tourism corporations; Quang Ninh tourism continues to be a key economic sector, a driving force for rapid and sustainable socio-economic development, and contributing to national defense and security...

To achieve this goal, a set of key solutions has been developed, focusing on promoting investment in high-quality tourism and service projects, developing golf courses according to planning; building key tourism centers in Ha Long, Cam Pha, Mong Cai, Uong Bi, Van Don, and Co To; innovating and improving the quality and competitiveness of existing tourism products and services; developing a smart tourism ecosystem linked to the development of the heritage economy, elevating Quang Ninh tourism to become an attractive destination for year-round tourists; focusing on promoting the development of the international market and boosting the domestic market; focusing on implementing digital transformation in tourism; strengthening specialized inspections, promptly correcting and handling violations in tourism business activities…

In 2025, the province is expected to host 24 international, national, and provincial-level programs and events, and 146 local-level programs and events. Notable events include the Miss Vietnam Global Beach Pageant 2025; the Ha Long Carnival 2025; and the art program "Legends of the Heritage Region"...

In January 2025, Quang Ninh welcomed 1.25 million tourists, an 18% increase compared to the same period last year, including over 390,000 international visitors; total tourism revenue reached over 2,850 billion VND. During the Lunar New Year period, according to information from the Department of Tourism, in 9 days (from January 25th to February 2nd, i.e., from the 26th day of the 12th lunar month to the 5th day of the Lunar New Year), Quang Ninh welcomed nearly 970,000 tourists, a 21% increase compared to the same period last year. Of these, nearly 230,000 were international visitors and over 740,000 were domestic visitors. Nearly 140,600 international overnight stays were recorded. Total tourism revenue reached 2,600 billion VND, a 43% increase compared to the same period last year.

With a vibrant and promising start to the year, the province's tourism industry continues to promise strong breakthroughs in the coming period, achieving the target of 20 million tourists visiting Quang Ninh, including 4.5 million international visitors, with total revenue from tourism activities expected to exceed 55,000 billion VND in 2025.
