The movement's appeal stems from a real need.
As a veteran leader of the Youth Union movement, Ms. Pham Le Phuong Thao – Secretary of the Youth Union of Tra Vinh University (TVU) – understands the significant changes in the psychology of young people today. Ms. Thao recognizes that, in the context of a rapidly developing digital society, the needs and desires of the younger generation are becoming increasingly diverse and varied.

According to Ms. Thao, in the past, young people mainly sought out the Youth Union to participate in superficial revolutionary movements. Currently, they demand more tangible values, such as concrete support in knowledge, soft skills, job opportunities, entrepreneurial guidance, digital transformation, and holistic personal development. This reality poses an urgent need for the Youth Union; if it does not continuously innovate its content and methods of operation, it will naturally diminish its appeal.
"For the movement to be vibrant, it must be centered around young people, basing its design and activities on their practical needs. We young people believe in a Youth Union organization that is innovative, courageous, and pioneering in digital transformation, accompanying young entrepreneurs, and knowing how to listen to and understand the aspirations of the younger generation," Ms. Phuong Thao expressed.
Looking forward to the new term of the Youth Union Congress, the Secretary of the Youth Union of Tra Vinh University hopes that the Youth Union's action movement will be implemented extensively and effectively in daily life. "The Youth Union and Youth Association need to create a favorable ecosystem so that every member, regardless of their field of study, work, production, or employment, can find their place, role, and responsibility in the overall development flow," Ms. Thao emphasized.
This shift in mindset is also the foundation for reaping tangible rewards. Vo Tan Phat, the head of the "5 Good Students" Club at Tra Vinh University, has grown from this movement. Phat affirms that the Youth Union is an environment for young people to train and learn. Looking ahead to the 13th National Congress of the Youth Union, Tan Phat hopes that the Union will continue to spread the "5 Good Students" movement even more strongly, empowering young people to dare to learn, dare to work, dare to start businesses, and dare to contribute.
"We young people are constantly striving to become citizens who are both politically committed and professionally competent, using our youthful energy and intellect to contribute to building the nation. Believing in the Youth Union, believing in ourselves, Vietnamese students are ready to take the lead and be pioneers for the aspiration of a strong and prosperous Vietnam," Tan Phat said.

Suggestions for bringing heritage into the "digital space"
One of the most striking aspects of the proposals submitted by the youth of Tra Vinh University to this year's Youth Union Congress is the concern of Thach Thi Hong Tham, a Khmer ethnic female student studying Cultural Studies. Living and studying in a region with profound cultural exchange, Hong Tham recognizes that traditional art and culture only truly have lasting vitality when they move beyond museums and are seamlessly integrated into the familiar and vibrant experiences of young people.
From that perspective, Hong Tham proposed a model: "A playground for creativity and the digitization of national culture." The student suggested that, in the new term, the Youth Union should proactively develop art workshops, creative classes, activities to experience the ao dai and Vietnamese traditional costumes, or programs to introduce the beauty of ethnic cultures through painting, design, and visual performances.
“I hope the Youth Union will create more cultural and artistic platforms where young people of all ethnic groups can express themselves, connect with each other, and together continue to write the beautiful story of a colorful Vietnam rich in identity. Furthermore, we young people aspire to become cultural ambassadors, carrying love for our homeland and national pride to contribute to building the country,” Hong Tham expressed her hope.

In particular, in the context of the current Industry 4.0 era, Hong Tham hopes that the Youth Union will play a pioneering role in equipping young people with the skills to use social media, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital platforms to promote Vietnamese culture to the world .
"The digital space is opening up equal and unlimited opportunities for cultural products created by young people to reach a global audience. A photo series of ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress), a short video showcasing traditional costumes, an online art exhibition, or a story about heritage expressed through graphics and 3D animation... all can become methods of cultural promotion with extremely powerful ripple effects," Hong Tham said.
To ensure this model doesn't remain limited to short-term projects or informal trips, the female students majoring in Cultural Studies suggested that the Youth Union act as a multi-stakeholder "connecting station." The Union would link art schools, student clubs, businesses, philanthropists, and local youth members. The combined resources—from expertise and personnel to venues, funding, and learning materials—would help sustain and expand community art activities, creating far-reaching and long-term impacts.
