Diverse heritage education activities
The Sa Huynh - Champa Cultural Museum (Duy Xuyen commune) recently welcomed 40 students from a local primary school for a field trip and experiential learning. This marks the beginning of a program to introduce students to museums in the 2025-2026 school year.
For about two hours, the students were introduced to historical and cultural artifacts of the Sa Huynh people and the ancient Champa kingdom, as well as traditional Vietnamese household and production items that were used several decades ago.
At the end of the tour, the children participated in on-site recreational activities such as drawing on artifacts; sculpting clay, carving statues, making pottery; embroidering images of artifacts on handbags; printing images of deities on traditional Vietnamese paper; and playing traditional folk games such as O An Quan (a board game) and flipping pictures.
First launched in 2004, the "Heritage Education in Schools" program, organized by the My Son World Cultural Heritage Management Board in collaboration with the local education sector, has attracted tens of thousands of students from many schools in the city.
In the 2024-2025 school year alone, more than 5,100 students from 49 primary, secondary, and high schools, and nearly 2,000 university students from universities specializing in tourism , culture, architecture, and fine arts across the country participated in the program.

Similarly, at the Da Nang Museum's second facility (Ban Thach ward), thousands of students visit each year to learn and experience. With over 30,000 valuable cultural and historical artifacts ranging from prehistoric times to the modern era, the museum has become an attractive destination for students to better understand the rich history of Quang Nam province.
In 2024, the second branch of the Da Nang Museum welcomed over 8,000 visitors for sightseeing, learning, and research, mostly students and teachers. In the first nearly 10 months of 2025 alone, approximately 6,100 students (483 university students) visited and explored the museum.
Mr. Tran Van Duc, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Museum, said that through activities such as tours and experiences with specific themes like "Returning to the Land of Memories," "Learning Archaeology," and "Painting Traditional Opera Masks and Making Traditional Banh Beo," the museum has become closer to students. Recently, the museum has also researched and developed many lesson plans, collaborating with several junior high schools in the area to organize direct learning sessions at the museum, effectively spreading cultural heritage values to the younger generation.
Improve the quality of operations.
Museums are not only places for preserving and displaying artifacts, documents, and images, but also spaces for experiencing memories of a bygone era. Improving the quality of museums through scientific and engaging tour programs has become an urgent requirement to attract visitors, especially young people and students.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tho, Head of the Museum Conservation Department of the My Son World Cultural Heritage Management Board, in order to increase the museum's attractiveness in a more creative way, the unit has improved and developed experiential activities for students. This not only helps students better understand Champa culture but also learn about Vietnamese history and culture. A typical example is organizing students to print images of Champa deities using Dong Ho printing techniques.
In addition, the unit is also researching the development of experiential services tailored to the needs of tourism businesses to generate revenue. It is expected that next month, the My Son World Cultural Heritage Management Board will welcome three groups of students (40 students each) brought by tourism companies to experience the Cham-Sa Huynh Museum and the My Son temple complex…
At the Da Nang Cham Sculpture Museum, with the motto "Learning through play, playing through learning," and focusing on developing soft skills for students, the institution has organized many connections between the museum and schools, gradually bringing the Champa cultural heritage closer to the younger generation. Since 2018, the museum has collaborated with schools in the area to organize the heritage education program "Let's Explore Together" for primary and secondary school students. Accordingly, students visit and explore the museum according to different themes depending on their grade level.

Specifically, students in grades 1 and 2 experienced the theme "Mythological Animals in Cham Sculpture"; students in grades 3, 4, and 5 experienced the theme "Gods in Hinduism". In addition, elementary school students also watched animated films about mythological stories related to the museum's artifacts and practiced storytelling.
Specifically for junior high school students, the museum organizes experiential activities based on two themes: "National Treasures at the Da Nang Cham Sculpture Museum" and "Cham relics in Da Nang and Quang Nam".
Students also participated in quiz games such as "Lucky Number Square," "Mystery Picture," "Who's Right - Who's Wrong," "The Finish Line Team," "Obstacle Course," etc.; and engaged in experiential activities such as painting, printing woodblock prints of replicas of museum artifacts, helping them develop dexterity, teamwork, and group work skills.
Notably, the museum also has its own heritage education program on "Exploring Champa Religious Art" for students majoring in history, culture, architecture, tourism, and tour guiding. This program allows students in these fields to access fundamental and in-depth knowledge about Champa religious art through the museum's collection of artifacts, helping them accumulate practical experience to serve their future careers.
Previously, since 2022, the Museum has also implemented a heritage education program through online sessions on the Zoom Meetings platform. The lessons also incorporate vivid virtual tours so that students can experience the exhibition spaces at the Museum and the My Son historical site in the most engaging and effective way.
