Bringing fashion into painting.

Instead of using paint and brushes, designer and artist Truong Minh Nghia uses multicolored cotton threads to embroider unique paintings.

These works are on display at the "Along the Countryside" exhibition, jointly organized by the 5P Club. The exhibition opened on the morning of December 15th at the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association.

Using cotton thread to "paint"

The "Along the Countryside" exhibition showcases 120 works by 22 artists depicting moments of people and natural beauty from all regions of Vietnam. The works are presented in various materials such as silk, oil paint, acrylic, and paper. The artists express themselves through diverse styles including realism, semi-realism, impressionism, and abstraction. Participating artists include Minh Minh, Duyen Tran, Yen Truc, Trac Phieu, Minh Son, Trang Nguyen, Nguyen Thi Tam, Nhu Khoi, Thuy Linh, Thanh Le, and Huong Giang… Notably, designer and artist Truong Minh Nghia contributes innovative works. He uses multicolored cotton threads for hand embroidery combined with computer embroidery to create unique paintings. Truong Minh Nghia told Tuoi Tre Online : "I have 15 years of experience in fashion design. As for incorporating fashion into painting, I started 4 years ago and am still pursuing it. I want to apply fashion to painting so that viewers can feel that the colors of the thread are as beautiful as oil paints." He admitted that hand embroidery takes a lot of time and requires patience and creative ideas to create a unique highlight.

The exhibition runs until the Lunar New Year.

Artist Nguyen Thi Tam, a former lecturer at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts, said the club usually organizes exhibitions once or twice a year to introduce its work at the end of the year for the Lunar New Year celebration. Currently, the club has about 40 members, the youngest being 8 years old and the oldest 89 years old.

"The club includes professional and amateur artists from various professions such as doctors, lawyers, teachers, housewives, etc. The club regularly organizes field trips. Each trip lasts 5-10 days, usually to characteristic regions across the country to create artwork and showcase the beautiful scenery of our homeland," added artist Nguyen Thi Tam. The "Along the Road to My Homeland " exhibition will run until the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake 2025, at the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association.
