“At the end of 2024, Blue Ocean officially exported its first shipment of passion fruit to the Australian market. This is the first Vietnamese enterprise to export passion fruit to this market, and it is also a source of pride for us. Currently, Blue Ocean continues to produce and deliver agricultural products to all over the world ,” said Mr. Phan Quoc Nam, Business Director of Blue Ocean JSC. According to Mr. Nam, passion fruit is a competitive product for the company, alongside other local agricultural products.

Blue Ocean JSC, a member of Ocean Group, has its factory located in Phu Son commune, Lam Ha district. The company specializes in processing and freezing tropical fruits for export. The factory, equipped with modern technology, commenced operations in October 2024 and has been continuously producing and consuming thousands of tons of agricultural products.

A representative from Blue Ocean JSC stated that for fresh passion fruit to be exported to Australia, it is necessary to establish a cultivation area, obtain a cultivation area code, and a packaging facility code approved by the Plant Protection Department, along with inspection and supervision from the partner. Simultaneously, the production process must ensure adherence to procedures and standards, complying with biosecurity requirements. Not only passion fruit, but also frozen products such as mangoes, watermelons, dragon fruit, and durian are subject to strict quality control and inspection at the input stage.

With a total area of 10,000 and advanced technology, the factory has the capacity to produce and supply the market with more than 10,000 tons of products per year. The products are processed from advantageous agricultural products of Lam Dong province, the Central Highlands provinces, and the Mekong Delta region. All products are processed through a quick-freezing process and packaged immediately after harvest, helping to preserve their flavor, freshness, and natural nutritional value.

Ms. Pham Thi Ngoc Thach, General Director of Blue Ocean JSC, stated: “Building a processing plant in Lam Dong is a strategic move for the company, aiming to optimize the supply chain from raw material sourcing to production, supplying both the domestic and export markets.” According to Ms. Ngoc Thach, passion fruit, avocado, durian, and dragon fruit – the company's four main products – are inseparable from the large raw material source in Lam Dong province. She affirmed that locating the factory within the raw material area also helps Blue Ocean forge closer ties with farmers, strengthening the farmer-business relationship.

Besides hundreds of hectares of land dedicated to cultivating mangoes, longan, avocados, etc., Blue Ocean JSC also has a passion fruit plantation of up to 50 hectares in Lam Dong and Dak Lak provinces . Of this, 25 hectares are organized to meet the export requirements for various markets, including Australia and Europe.

In particular, Lam Dong province has a large area of passion fruit cultivation, peaking at over 1,200 hectares, with many regions having standardized production for export. This is a major source of raw materials, providing a foundation for Blue Ocean to expand exports and bring Vietnamese agricultural products to the Australian market.

Vietnamese passion fruit is permitted for import into the Australian market but must comply with biosecurity requirements. For passion fruit exports, several risk management measures must be implemented to ensure that the growing areas, production zones, and production facilities are free from pests and diseases. Lam Dong province currently has two designated passion fruit growing areas for export, covering 111 hectares, under strict supervision by relevant authorities.

In September 2024, Vietnam, in coordination with the Australian Embassy, held a ceremony to announce the export of passion fruit from Vietnam to Australia. After negotiation efforts, market opening, and close cooperation between the two sides, passion fruit became the fifth fruit officially exported to Australia, after mango, longan, lychee, and dragon fruit.
