German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (2nd, left) visits soldiers at the training base in Altengrabow, near Moeckern, eastern Germany, January 26, 1.
On August 3, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius again denied the possibility of supplying Taurus long-range missiles to Ukraine.
Speaking during a visit to an infantry brigade in Bavaria, Minister Pistorius stressed that the supply of the aforementioned long-range missiles was "not a priority" for Berlin at the moment, and confirmed there were concerns. clearly concerned about sending “special range” missiles to Ukraine.
The head of the German Defense Ministry also mentioned that the US, an ally of Berlin, did not provide Kiev with these cruise missiles.
However, Mr. Pistorius affirmed that Germany currently plays a leading role in helping Ukraine with air defense, training support, technology and armored vehicles.
He emphasized that this is the top priority and also the core competence of Berlin.
At the end of May this year, Ukraine asked Germany for the supply of Taurus air-to-ground cruise missiles with a range of more than 5 km, jointly developed by this country and Sweden.
However, the German government has so far refused this request.
Germany is currently the second largest supplier of military assistance to Ukraine, after the United States.
However, like Washington, Berlin remains opposed to sending Kiev long-range offensive weapons that could escalate the current conflict in Ukraine.
