Don't let children play with "death"!

Driven by a moment of indulgence, a desire for a unique or unusual moment, or simply to "gain likes," some parents allow their children to drive cars. This not only endangers themselves and others but also demonstrates a blatant disregard for the law.

In late March, a video appeared on Facebook showing a girl, approximately 6 years old, driving a toy car on a road in Binh Xuyen district, Vinh Phuc province, with encouragement from her father.

When this video went viral on social media, it quickly sparked public outrage and indignation.

Many people believe this was an irresponsible act, a violation of the law, and put his child and other road users at serious risk. For this behavior, the father was subsequently fined 30 million VND by the authorities.

Police officers reminded a young child in Lak district about driving a family's tractor.

Previously, in 2022, a video circulated on social media showing a parent allowing a girl, approximately 4-5 years old, to hold and steer a vehicle on a street in Tien Giang province.

In Dak Lak province, during a traffic safety awareness campaign for residents in a commune in Lak district at the end of 2024, the campaigners were astonished to see a student, approximately 11-12 years old, driving a motorbike. Upon investigation, it was found that this was not the first time the child had driven a family vehicle on local roads. The campaigners reminded the child not to drive any vehicles when underage and without a driver's license. They also reminded the family not to give vehicles to underage children.

According to experts, the front seat in a car is the most dangerous position in the event of a collision. This area is often in direct and close contact with obstacles or accident-causing sources more than the back seat. Although car safety systems are designed to protect front-seat occupants, these systems are primarily optimized for adults. Children, with their smaller stature, are not suited to these designs, leading to a higher risk in an accident. In the same seating position, children may suffer more severe consequences than adults due to a lack of comprehensive protection. Therefore, to reflect this reality, the 2024 Road Traffic Safety Law stipulates that when transporting children under 10 years old and children under 1.35 meters tall, they are not allowed to sit in the same row as the driver, except in cars with only one row of seats; drivers must use and instruct children on the use of appropriate safety equipment.

Allowing children to sit in the driver's seat is extremely dangerous and risky. First, a child sitting in the driver's seat will obstruct the driver's view, making it difficult to react in unexpected situations. Furthermore, if a child plays with the steering wheel, the vehicle could lose control and cause a traffic accident.

Parents allowing their children to sit in the driver's seat and steer the wheel is a highly reprehensible act that deserves appropriate punishment. This is not simply entrusting a vehicle to someone without a driver's license or who is underage, but rather giving a vehicle to someone who lacks the ability to understand the consequences of their actions.
