Country roads are getting a makeover.

The dusty, muddy roads of the past have now been paved, widened, and improved. Well-maintained rural transportation facilitates convenient travel for residents, speeds up the flow of agricultural products, and improves people's lives.

Returning to the rural hamlets, it's easy to notice the significant changes along each road. The red dirt roads that once caused hardship for residents whenever it rained have now been replaced with smooth, wide concrete surfaces. On both sides of the roads are neatly trimmed green hedges, interspersed with spacious houses, creating a fresh and vibrant rural landscape.

In Hamlet 9A, Tan Thanh Commune, the nearly 5km long main road, recently paved with concrete, has become a "bright spot" in the area. Previously, this road was frequently flooded and slippery during rainy weather, making travel and the transportation of agricultural products difficult. Now, the road has been widened and paved with solid concrete, allowing small trucks to access the area for purchasing produce. Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, a resident of Hamlet 9A, happily stated: "Before, this road was only wide enough for motorbikes, and it was muddy and prone to accidents during the rain. Now, vehicles can travel easily, traders can come directly to the orchards to buy produce, and the farmers are much less burdened."

Not only in Hamlet 9A, but also in Ban B Hamlet, Tan Thanh Commune, the movement to build rural roads has been actively supported by the people. A road over 1.5km long is scheduled to be completed in 2025 with contributions from both the State and the people. Many households voluntarily donated land, removed fences, and cut down trees to widen the road. Ms. Tran Thi Thu Lan, a resident of Ban B Hamlet, shared: “Initially, my family regretted donating the land in front of our house, but when we understood the long-term benefits, we agreed to donate it. Now we have a beautiful road, making travel more convenient, the value of our land has increased, and our lives have improved significantly.”

The local government of Tan Thanh commune also encouraged residents to build bright, green, clean, and beautiful roads. Along both sides of the roads, people planted bougainvillea and ornamental trees, installed streetlights, creating a neat, clean, and beautiful landscape. In the evenings, people can travel more safely and go about their daily lives more easily.

In Dong Hoa commune, the rural landscape is undergoing a significant transformation thanks to the investment and upgrading of roads. Visiting hamlets such as 9 Xang, Thanh Phu, and Thanh An, we saw many previously narrow and dilapidated roads that have now been paved with concrete and widened, creating a more open and airy environment. The inter-hamlet road connecting 9 Xang and Thanh An, after its completion, has facilitated travel and trade for the residents. Mr. Vo Van Phuc, a resident of 9 Xang hamlet, shared: “Before, although the road was wide, the high volume of trucks caused many potholes, both large and small, and it would flood when it rained, making it very dangerous. Since the road was rebuilt, people feel safer traveling, and the hamlet's appearance has improved significantly.”

According to Mr. Le Ngoc Tung, Secretary of the Dong Hoa Commune Party Committee, in addition to investing in upgrading and expanding rural roads, the locality is continuing to focus on building a green, clean, and beautiful landscape, creating unique highlights for each residential area. The commune plans to implement the Trans-Asian Highway section from the commune's People's Committee headquarters to the Chech Ky canal in Hamlet 9 Xang, with a length of approximately 500m, and the inter-hamlet road connecting Thanh An Hamlet with Hamlet 9 Xang, nearly 1km long, to become a model flower-lined road for the locality.

To enhance the rural landscape, Dong Hoa commune is planning to build flower-lined roads along its main transportation routes. The yellow trumpet flower (Cassia fistula) has been chosen as the main flower due to its vibrant yellow color, ease of cultivation, and suitability to the local soil conditions. When in full bloom, these rows of yellow trumpet flowers will create a bright and lively scene, contributing to the beautification of the landscape and raising environmental awareness among the community. “We believe that transportation development must be linked to the construction of a model new rural area, not only convenient but also green, clean, and beautiful. These flower-lined roads will contribute to making Dong Hoa commune even more beautiful and vibrant,” said Mr. Le Ngoc Tung.

Well-maintained and clean transportation routes not only facilitate travel but also carry the belief and hope for a brighter future. These changes in transportation infrastructure are contributing to the flourishing of villages and hamlets.
