After an explosive season with Sunderland, contributing greatly to the team's promotion to the Premier League, Jobe Bellingham decided to follow in the footsteps of his brother Jude by moving to Borussia Dortmund last summer.
The £26.9m deal has the German media pinning high hopes on the 19-year-old, but his first weeks in the Bundesliga have not gone as smoothly as expected.
Jobe has played in all six of Dortmund's games so far, but has only started twice and has yet to complete 90 minutes. In total, the young English midfielder has played just 154 minutes in the Bundesliga, without scoring or assisting. With Felix Nmecha, Marcel Sabitzer and new signing Pascal Gross all being given priority, Jobe has gradually been pushed down the pecking order in midfield.

Jobe had an unsuccessful start in Germany. |
Coach Niko Kovac explained the reason: “ Every player wants to play the full 90 minutes, but the team only has 11 starting players. When you sign a contract at Dortmund, it means you have to face fierce competition. Jobe is a great talent, but he comes from the second division in England and needs more time to adapt to this environment.”
In addition to his professional problems, Bellingham's younger brother has also been caught in unwanted attention after his father, Mark, had a heated argument with sporting director Sebastien Kehl after the 3-3 draw with St. Pauli. Jobe is also said to be unhappy with coach Kovac's decision. He was only allowed to start one more match before being relegated to the bench.
CEO Lars Ricken had to speak out to calm public opinion: "It's a pity that Jobe's name keeps appearing before and after every match. He is only 19 years old, he has a long way to go. We have a five-year contract and believe that he will be successful at Dortmund."
