Evra believes his former teammates are "harming" Carrick. |
In an interview with Stake , the former French defender directly mentioned Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, and Roy Keane. "I really don't understand why Michael Carrick isn't getting the support he deserves. He's one of the players who's doing very well," Evra said.
According to the former French player, the negative comments from Neville, Keane, and Scholes could affect Carrick's career. He believes that constantly questioning Carrick's abilities is unreasonable, especially when the former England midfielder is having a positive start on the coaching bench.
Carrick took over Manchester United after Ruben Amorim left the manager's position. In his first eight games, he led the team to six wins before suffering their first defeat against Newcastle.
However, many former club legends still believe Carrick lacks the experience to lead Manchester United long-term. Scholes even suggested that the team has performed poorly in recent matches.
Keane also expressed skepticism about Carrick's ability to become the permanent manager, even if the team could finish in the top four. Meanwhile, Neville suggested Manchester United should look for a more high-caliber manager to reduce the risks to their long-term project.
Evra disagreed with that view and wanted his former teammates to show more support for Carrick. The former French defender also reiterated that many of them had short coaching careers. Therefore, Evra argued that publicly criticizing Carrick was unnecessary.
The debate surrounding Carrick's future has therefore become a focal point at Old Trafford. However, the final decision will ultimately depend on Manchester United's results for the remainder of the season.
