Fabregas' tactical thinking is completely different from Amorim's. |
Fabregas's analysis went viral on social media, with his tactical views aligning with the situation in which Manchester United dropped points. The former Spanish midfielder explained the reason for limiting the number of defenders brought on when the team was leading 1-0.
"When you withdraw a striker or midfielder and bring in a defender in the last 10-15 minutes, the message sent to the players is that the coach wants to defend. Automatically, the whole team drops deep, inviting the opponent to press and increase the pressure. In 80 to 90% of cases, this backfires," Head Coach Como emphasized.
Many MU fans agreed with this view. One person wrote: "Cesc is absolutely right. Amorim needs to be bolder if he wants to manage MU." Other reactions from fans included: "He's too conservative," "This mindset isn't suitable for a MU manager," "Amorim is clearly wrong"...
Amorim's substitutions were questioned when he made five changes in the second half, mostly defensive ones including Leny Yoro, Patrick Dorgu, Manuel Ugarte, Mason Mount, and Lisandro Martinez. After taking the lead through Diogo Dalot's goal, MU lost control of the game when Amorim substituted Matheus Cunha and Joshua Zirkzee.
West Ham regained control of the game, and Soungoutou Magassa scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute, leaving the Old Trafford club with only one point. Kobbie Mainoo remained on the bench as Manchester United's midfield was deemed to lack dynamism towards the end of the match.
When asked if he was being too cautious with his substitutions, Amorim countered: "No. We lost in second-ball situations. Just bringing on more attackers doesn't solve anything. We didn't have any other attacking options anyway."
