Google Maps with 3D view.

Google says it's about to reshape how users navigate and drive. The company's "biggest update of the decade" adds 3D space instead of the traditional top-down view. It calls it Immersive Navigation.

Google Maps users are promised a more focused experience. The new map perspective provides 3D information including buildings, overpasses, and surrounding terrain. When needed, the software highlights details along the route such as lanes, markings, traffic lights, and signs. Beyond real-world data, Maps achieves this with the support of AI.

The update doesn't just change the surface imagery. A 3D view allows drivers to preview complex road sections ahead. The software automatically makes buildings obstructing difficult curves transparent. Voice navigation provides full information on lane changes and exits.

Google Maps' traffic congestion notification feature is highly regarded in Vietnam. Many users utilize this map for its ability to continuously update traffic data. In the upcoming update, whenever routes are adjusted due to traffic congestion, the tool will provide full information on the device. This data includes problems on the main route and alternative options to save time and energy.

On the other hand, Google Maps will provide more comprehensive destination information. Instead of just a location, the app displays the gate, exit, or parking lot to assist drivers.

These updates are not yet available. The developer hasn't specified when they will be available on users' devices. In the description, they use examples of American streets, on mobile devices and Android Auto, but not a web view.

On the other hand, the amount of data Google needs to display accurate 3D images of the entire world is enormous. In fact, the platform only possesses building and street information for some areas in the West and Japan, which is already available on the Google Earth app. At the same time, they also have to fill in information about lanes and parking spaces in many cities.

These solutions from the tech giants are not new. Baidu Maps and Amap have already offered similar features in China. Domestic software from the country of over a billion people can even count the numbers on traffic lights.
