Developing a digital map of rural tourism in Vietnam.

Digital transformation is becoming one of the key drivers for the development of rural tourism. In the Rural Tourism Development Plan for the period 2026-2030, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has set the goal of building a Digital Map of Rural Tourism in Vietnam to improve the efficiency of management, promotion, and connectivity of destinations nationwide.

According to the plan, the digital mapping system will integrate multiple thematic data layers such as agricultural tourism, craft village tourism, cultural and agricultural festivals, OCOP product experience points, and typical rural tourism models. It is expected that the digital mapping system for rural tourism in Vietnam will be completed and put into operation by 2029.

The creation of digital maps not only helps standardize data on rural tourism resources but also facilitates localities in promoting their image more effectively in the digital environment. Through this platform, tourists can easily access information about destinations, unique products, accommodation services, cultural experiences, and tourism activities taking place in each locality.

In addition to digital maps, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will also conduct periodic surveys and assessments of the current state of rural tourism to build a database for management and policy planning. The data system will be regularly updated, ensuring accuracy and connectivity with digital platforms of the tourism industry and localities.

According to experts, one of the current limitations of rural tourism is the fragmented, uncoordinated, and inaccessible information available to tourists. The creation of a unified national digital map is expected to create a new impetus in destination promotion, while also supporting localities in more effectively exploiting their potential in terms of landscapes, culture, and unique products.

Digital maps not only serve management purposes but also contribute to promoting digital transformation in the construction of new rural areas. When data on rural tourism is digitized and synchronously connected, opportunities to access markets for OCOP entities, craft villages, and tourism communities will be expanded, creating further impetus for rural economic development in the new phase.
