Daniel Farke could be sacked by Leeds United. |
Leeds suffered a painful defeat to Manchester City on November 29th, with Phil Foden scoring in injury time. However, the pressure is mounting due to their run of four consecutive defeats, six losses in seven matches, and their position in the relegation zone alongside Burnley and Wolves.
Numerous internal sources acknowledge Farke's precarious situation, although some argue the team isn't playing as badly as the scoreboard suggests. 49ers Enterprises' impatience is heightened as they seek a new coach soon enough to be part of their January 2026 transfer plans.
The group has also recently made drastic decisions at Rangers, the club they co-own, sacking the CEO, sporting director, and head coach within just three months. Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe also serves as vice-chairman at Rangers.
Leeds are expected to spend heavily in the upcoming transfer window to strengthen their chances of avoiding relegation, especially as the 49ers have committed tens of millions of pounds to upgrading Elland Road to over 53,000 seats. However, faith in Farke has never been absolute.
He nearly lost his job shortly after leading the team to promotion last summer, and his contract wasn't renewed, suggesting he's still in a "probationary" period.
Leeds spent over £100 million on 10 new signings this summer, but the results haven't lived up to expectations. Farke complained about the lack of attacking options after Patrick Bamford's departure without a replacement.
Conversely, some leaders questioned the quality of the new signings, arguing that he prioritized physical strength over technical skill. Of these, only Sean Longstaff and Gabriel Gudmundsson were considered clear successes.
The top management also saw changes. Recruitment consultant Nick Hammond left Leeds for Everton, following in the footsteps of former CEO Angus Kinnear. This forced Leeds to promote Adam Underwood from his position as head of football operations to director of sports.
Leeds will play Chelsea on December 4th and Liverpool three days later. And just one more slip-up could bring Farke's reign to an end at Elland Road.
