Farke faces 'life and death week' at Leeds

Daniel Farke enters a week that could decide his future at Leeds United, with the club's board prepared to sack him if the team continues to fail.

Daniel Farke could be sacked by Leeds United.

Leeds were beaten by Manchester City by Phil Foden in injury time in round 13 of the Premier League on November 29. But what added to the pressure was a run of four consecutive defeats, six defeats in seven games and a position in the relegation zone with Burnley and Wolves.

Many inside sources admit that Farke is on the brink of death, although there is still an opinion that the team is not playing as badly as the scoreboard shows. The impatience of 49ers Enterprises is growing as they want to have a new coach soon enough to participate in the January 2026 transfer plan.

The group has also been involved in drastic decisions at Rangers, the team it co-owns, sacking the CEO, sporting director and head coach in just three months. Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe also holds the role of vice-chairman at Rangers.

Leeds are expected to spend big in the upcoming transfer window to strengthen their chances of staying up, especially when the 49ers have committed to investing tens of millions of pounds to upgrade Elland Road to more than 53,000 seats. However, confidence in Farke has never been absolute.

He was almost lost his job right after leading the team to promotion last summer, and also did not have his contract renewed, a sign that he is still on "trial".

Leeds spent more than £100m on 10 new players in the summer, but the results have not been as expected, with Farke complaining about the lack of attacking options after letting go of Patrick Bamford without replacing him.

Conversely, some leaders have questioned the quality of his new signings, claiming that he favours strength over technique. Of these, only Sean Longstaff and Gabriel Gudmundsson have been considered clear successes.

There has also been a shake-up in the top echelons of management. Recruitment consultant Nick Hammond left Leeds for Everton, following in the footsteps of former CEO Angus Kinnear. This has forced Leeds to promote Adam Underwood from head of football operations to sporting director.

Leeds play Chelsea on December 4 and Liverpool three days later, and one more slip-up could see Farke's reign at Elland Road come to an end.
