In its Stadium Code of Conduct, issued in May 2026, FIFA allowed spectators to bring in clear, empty, reusable plastic bottles with a maximum capacity of 1 liter.

However, in the latest update, FIFA has changed this rule. "To avoid misunderstanding, reusable water bottles are not allowed in stadiums," FIFA stated.

FIFA will not allow spectators to bring empty, clear plastic bottles into stadiums at the 2026 World Cup.

According to our research, this decision relates to safety issues at the 2026 World Cup. FIFA believes that water bottles could be thrown from the stands, posing a danger to players, referees, and other spectators.

Explaining this, a FIFA spokesperson said: “FIFA is committed to protecting the health and safety of all players, referees, fans, volunteers and staff. FIFA has decided to ban water bottles from stadiums to prevent risks and limit the potential for injury to players and spectators.”

This decision means that reusable water bottles will be added to the list of banned items, along with other bottles, cans, cups, and containers.

FIFA also stated that some host stadiums in the United States, Canada, and Mexico already have similar regulations. Therefore, the new regulations will be applied uniformly across all venues for the 2026 World Cup.

However, after FIFA announced the change, much controversy erupted on social media. Many argued that the 2026 World Cup would take place in hot weather, so banning reusable water bottles could make it difficult for spectators to replenish fluids at the stadium.

In response to these concerns, FIFA stated that organizers would implement cooling measures for spectators and set up drinking water stations around the stadium. Additionally, FIFA would strictly regulate the sale of bottled water inside the stadium to prevent fans from being overcharged.

Argentina will go to the 2026 World Cup as the defending champions.

Also related to the 2026 World Cup, the organizers have announced the official ball to be used in the tournament, named Trionda. The most groundbreaking feature of the ball is the inclusion of a smart chip in its center, requiring it to be charged before each match.

According to FIFA, this is a highly sensitive motion sensor technology capable of recording and transmitting data about the ball's position and speed at a frequency of up to 500 times per second.

Thanks to this, every impact a player makes on the ball, no matter how small, can be accurately measured in real time. After collecting the data, the chip immediately sends all the information to the VAR room within seconds.

The 2026 World Cup will be the largest tournament in history, featuring 48 national teams from around the world . The tournament will begin on June 12th and end on July 20th.
