Hanoi Police FC has announced the signing of Filip Nguyen. The goalkeeper, born in 1992, is registered to play in the second phase of the V-League 2023 under the slot reserved for foreign players of Vietnamese origin.
Filip Nguyễn joined Hanoi Police FC after his contract with Slovacko FC (Czech Republic) ended prematurely. The Vietnamese-Czech goalkeeper signed a three-year contract with the police force's football team. Hanoi Police FC announced that they will hire a Vietnamese language teacher for Filip Nguyễn.
It is expected that Hanoi Police FC will pay Filip Nguyen a salary and signing bonus many times higher than what he received in the Czech Republic. Filip Nguyen himself has admitted to European media that what he receives upon returning to Vietnam far exceeds his salary in Europe.
Filip Nguyễn joined Hanoi Police FC from the second phase of the 2023 V-League season.
Before the 2023 season, Hanoi Police FC also attempted to sign Filip Nguyen. The Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) website even listed Filip Nguyen's name. However, the deal was not completed. At that time, Filip Nguyen was having trouble terminating his contract with Slovacko FC.
Hanoi Police FC will have four goalkeepers. Besides Filip Nguyen, the other two are Patrik Le Giang, Bui Tien Dung, and Do Sy Huy. It's highly likely that Patrik Le Giang will leave because he doesn't yet have Vietnamese citizenship. The VPF (Vietnam Professional Football) only allows one overseas Vietnamese player per team.
Filip Nguyễn has a Vietnamese father and a Czech mother. He grew up in the youth academy of Sparta Prague. Filip Nguyễn rose to fame playing for Slovan Liberec and won the award for best goalkeeper in the national championship in the 2018/19 season.
Filip Nguyễn has been called up to the Czech Republic national team but has not played in any matches. Therefore, he is still eligible to play for the Vietnam national team in the future.
