On October 18th, Forlan played for Old Boys and contributed to a 4-1 victory against Old Christians in an amateur match. However, the 46-year-old striker suffered a strong collision with an opposing player and fell to the ground in pain. Forlan was immediately taken to the hospital.
The diagnosis revealed he had three broken ribs and fluid in his lungs. Doctors had to perform drainage to treat this critical condition. According to Uruguayan media, the former striker is currently in stable condition and will remain hospitalized for observation until October 21st.
Despite suffering a serious injury, Forlan insists there was no "malicious intent" from the opposing player in the collision. Fans quickly sent messages of encouragement and wished him a speedy recovery.
Forlan was once considered one of the best strikers in Uruguayan football history. He played for several major European clubs such as Manchester United, Villarreal, and Atletico Madrid, leaving his mark with spectacular goals.
On the international stage, Forlan scored 36 goals in 112 matches for the Uruguayan national team and particularly shone at the 2010 World Cup, winning the Golden Ball for the best player of the tournament.
