On weekend afternoons, the Plei-Fly Disc Club gathers on the alluvial plains and grassy areas around the Bien Ho B suspension bridge (Hamlet 4, Bien Ho Commune, Gia Lai Province) or on artificial turf fields in Pleiku. The continuous frisbee throwing, interspersed with calls to teammates, creates a lively and energetic atmosphere that lasts for several hours.
Nay My Sen (born in 2002, Jrai ethnic minority, residing in Pleiku Roh village, Dien Hong ward), Chairman of the Plei-Fly Disc Club, has participated in many Ultimate Frisbee tournaments in Ho Chi Minh City.
In 2023, he and his teammates won the runner-up title at the Saigon Hat tournament. That same year, he and the members of the Saigon Entixie Ultimate Club won the Saigon U24 Ultimate Championship. In 2024, after returning to Gia Lai to live and work, he gradually began to think about developing a well-organized Frisbee community.
The club has grown quite rapidly and attracted more and more participants. Ms. Le Nguyen Thu Hong (born in 2002, Pleiku ward, a member of the Plei-Fly Disc Club) said: “Initially, I thought Frisbee was simple, but when I played, I realized it requires more skills, from throwing technique and force to coordination with teammates. Sometimes I felt quite awkward because I wasn't used to it, but the more I played, the more interesting it became.”
What I enjoyed most was that each throw and catch was different; sometimes we had to chase difficult passes, and other times the whole team coordinated very well, so it felt really fun.”
Notably, in addition to its internal activities, the Plei-Fly Disc Club also welcomes many people to experience it for free, including numerous tourists.
After each training session or competition, everyone usually sits down to chat, share their feelings, and take souvenir photos.
From impromptu flights on the grass on weekends, Frisbee is gradually creating its own appeal for young people. More than just a novel sport , it's also a space for young people to connect, share, and find simple joys amidst the hustle and bustle of modern life.
