In the villages and hamlets of Hoa My commune, hundreds of officers and soldiers of Regiment 584 (Provincial Military Command) are busily working with the people to clear mud and debris, clean up houses and schools. Amidst the chaotic mess of mud and overflowing garbage at Lac Chi village's cultural center, the soldiers and villagers are carrying furniture, cleaning tables and chairs, tidying up the surroundings, and restoring normal life.
At schools in communes and wards such as Hoa Tam, Tay Hoa, and Dong Hoa, the presence of soldiers in mud-stained green uniforms was everywhere. All school supplies, documents, and books, soaked with water and covered in mud, were quickly sorted, washed, and dried by soldiers from Regiment 143, Division 315, Division 307 (Military Region 5); and Regiment 66, Division 10 (Corps 34), hoping to salvage whatever was left. Sergeant Dao Huu Thinh (Regiment 143, Division 315) lamented: “Looking at the desolate state of the school, everyone feels heartbroken. We have cleaned and tidied up the basic facilities, but most of the students' school supplies and teachers' teaching materials are no longer usable.”
