For 20 years, the word "heart" has remained true.
At over 70 years old, veteran Ha Minh Quang (born in 1953, residing in Binh Long hamlet, Chau Thanh commune, Tay Ninh province) still maintains a vibrant and energetic lifestyle, practicing Vovinam martial arts and playing six musical instruments. A once-steadfast reconnaissance soldier, a teacher with over 30 years of teaching experience, and now the author of many emotionally charged articles, he strives to help underprivileged individuals and poor students overcome difficulties in his local area through his writing.

After graduating from high school, he answered the sacred call of the Fatherland and enlisted in December 1971, becoming a reconnaissance soldier in the 320th Division of the 3rd Corps. After the war ended, in 1977, the Ministry of National Defense facilitated his preparation for the entrance exam, and he excelled, successfully enrolling him in the Psychology Department at Hanoi Pedagogical University 1. From then on, his life was intertwined with the blackboard and chalk for 32 years, teaching in various provinces before finally settling at Hoang Van Thu High School (Chau Thanh commune, Tay Ninh province) until his retirement in 2013.

Driven by his love for the profession, Mr. Quang wanted to use his pen to spread positive values, encourage underprivileged students to overcome difficulties and excel in their studies, and praise teachers who have wholeheartedly dedicated themselves to the cause of education . Since 2006, teacher Ha Minh Quang has "found his calling" in a new "profession": a freelance journalist. He doesn't shy away from any difficulties, even traveling over 100km alone on assignment trips.
Spending countless nights in front of the computer learning how to operate it proficiently, or long days wading through fields and following roads to learn how to capture every moment through the lens, Mr. Quang shared: “The teaching profession and journalism support each other a great deal. As a teacher, I have a foundation in language and expression that supports journalism. More importantly, both professions require professional ethics. In my opinion, without ethics and compassion for people, it is difficult to excel in both teaching and journalism.”

For Mr. Ha Minh Quang, each article about difficult circumstances published in the newspaper is an opportunity to help those less fortunate. With deep empathy, he persistently researches and meticulously records to portray the most authentic picture of the characters' fates. After the articles are published, many philanthropists come forward to support them, giving them the strength to overcome their challenges in life.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang (born in 1972, residing in Binh Long hamlet, Chau Thanh commune) shared: “A few years after getting married, my husband became seriously ill. I tried my best to take care of him while also earning money to support my children's education. When Mr. Quang learned about our family's situation, he tried his best to help a lot. After the article about my family was published in the newspaper, many philanthropists came to help. Life for my family is less difficult now. That is also a great source of encouragement for my children to continue striving in their studies.”
Throughout his life, Mr. Ha Minh Quang was also an exemplary veteran, a multi-talented artist, and beloved by the people. Le Ba Minh, head of the Veterans Association branch in Binh Long hamlet, Chau Thanh commune, said: “Veteran Ha Minh Quang is elderly but very active in the association's activities, especially in cultural and artistic events. Veterans and local people are very impressed and supportive after reading his articles.”
The journey of spreading the beauty of Uncle Ho's soldiers.
Over the years, behind every article reflecting on the lives of soldiers or the beautiful stories and meaningful activities at the 5th Division, there has always been the silent contribution of a soldier. He is Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Duc Danh (born in 1989) - Deputy Head of Political Affairs of the 5th Regiment.
With his keen observation skills, he quietly observed, grasped the thoughts and feelings of the officers and soldiers, and recorded beautiful moments to promptly spread meaningful stories closer to the people. Every day, witnessing many good models, creative approaches, and exemplary examples of officers and soldiers in their studies and training, he realized these were meaningful stories that needed to be shared. Wanting to become a "bridge" bringing the image of soldiers and the unit's activities closer to readers, he proactively sought out and learned news writing skills to begin his journey as a journalist.
Recalling his first published work, Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Duc Danh shared: “It was a short news article about the unit's Youth Forum, published on the Military Region 7 online newspaper in 2017. Although it was just a short article, it was a very special milestone for me, because it was the first achievement after days of self-learning how to write news, take photos, and submit articles for collaboration. To this day, I still keep that article as a beautiful memory from my collaborative journey.”

From his initial hesitant steps, Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Duc Danh has now accumulated considerable experience in journalistic work. His writings and images consistently reflect the realities of military life, portraying diverse aspects of work such as training, combat readiness, building a regular army, and discipline, as well as documenting exemplary individuals, successful models, innovative approaches, and heartwarming stories of camaraderie, fellowship, and the support of the families of soldiers.
Besides his professional duties at the unit, maintaining journalistic collaborations also presents many challenges for Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Duc Danh. As a key unit, Regiment 5 regularly carries out high-intensity training and combat readiness tasks, with many unexpected assignments requiring officers to dedicate significant time and effort. To produce high-quality journalistic works, he often takes advantage of evenings and days off, while also drawing material from his daily work experience.
“I have never considered journalism a secondary task. For me, it is both a responsibility of a propaganda officer and a passion I have been involved in for many years. I always try to manage my time effectively, complete my assigned tasks well, and utilize the military environment as a rich source of material to find topics and inspiration for my writing,” Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Duc Danh further shared.
Lieutenant Colonel Danh's articles go beyond superficial reflections; they also breathe the warmth of life, possessing a profound impact and guiding ideology, earning high praise from his comrades. Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Minh Khang, Political Officer of Company 3, Battalion 4, Regiment 5, shared: “Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Duc Danh's articles are vivid and truthfully reflect the lives, studies, work, training, and combat readiness of the soldiers; contributing to spreading the noble image of the Ho Chi Minh Army as well as examples of good people and good deeds throughout the unit. Comrade Danh has a writing style that is rich in emotion, coherent, and easily accessible.”
For Private Pham Anh Dung, a soldier in Company 18, Regiment 5, each news item, article, and report reflecting on the unit helps families and loved ones better understand the lives and work of soldiers in the military. For the soldiers, this is also a great source of encouragement and motivation to continue striving, honing their skills, improving their abilities, and uniting with their comrades to successfully complete all assigned tasks.

For a soldier-writer, the greatest reward sometimes lies not in the completed manuscript pages, but in the connection of souls with strangers. Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Duc Danh said: “What makes me happiest and proudest after many years of collaborating with the press is connecting with many readers and contributors across the country. Every time I receive a phone call, message, or word of encouragement from people I've never met but who read and love my work, I feel very happy. This is also the motivation for me to continue writing, telling beautiful stories in the military with all the love, responsibility, and pride of a soldier-journalist.”
Currently, the name Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Duc Danh has become familiar, a trusted contributor to 12 media outlets both within and outside the military. His perseverance has opened up new expectations from his comrades and readers. Lieutenant Lam Minh Thuong - Deputy Political Officer of Company 12, Battalion 6, Regiment 5, shared: “Hopefully, in the future, Comrade Danh will continue to produce more works vividly reflecting military life, camaraderie, and beautiful stories that unfold daily in the unit. I also hope that Comrade Danh will continue to develop his strengths in genres such as essays, memoirs, or military diary columns.”
Lieutenant Colonel Do The Anh, Secretary of the Party Committee and Political Commissar of Regiment 5, Division 5, assessed that Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Duc Danh always demonstrates a high sense of responsibility in his work. Despite his busy schedule, Comrade Danh still dedicates much time and effort to collaborating with the press. He views writing articles not as a way to assert himself, but as a responsibility of an officer in disseminating and spreading good models, effective methods, and exemplary advanced individuals within the unit.
Overcoming work difficulties and dedicating their hearts to each page, our journalistic collaborators always consider spreading beautiful stories and positive values in life as the most meaningful reward. With their love for the profession, sense of responsibility, and perseverance, they quietly contribute to creating pages of journalism rich in humanity, connecting lives through authentic and relatable stories.
